Hi
I knwow to let out some air during the daytime, but I'm wondering for those of you who camp in tents abroad what you use as bedding. Normally I would well insulate the underneath and top of an airbed but wouldn't the coolness of the airbed help in warm conditions ? Will a simple cotton sheet be enough ontop of the airbed plus of course our sleeping bags ?

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
You can get real varied weather, even in the hottest places - we've had 30 degrees during a holiday, followed within a few days by a night with a ground frost! I'd take a sheet, but also something warmer, too, just in case. We have a duvet, and a cotton sheet - if it's hot we use the sheet, if not the duvet, and occasionally if it's very cold, both!

Thanks Val, you mean on top of the mattress and under you, right ? My OH is insisting I leave all the warm stuff at home.

When we stayed in France in July in a mobile home several years ago I made the mistake of thinking it wouldn't be too cold. We had to go to the supermarket to buy warmer pjs and an extra top for our toddler to wear in bed as it was so cold. Best to be prepared for both.

No, I mean on top of you. Believe me, if you count on it being too warm it won't be. There's nothing worse than trying to get to sleep when you are too cold.
Even if the weather is hot at night you will find the airbed clammy if you don't have a reasonably thick absorbent layer to absorb your sweat as you sleep. Maybe a large bath sheet/beach towel would do for either hot or cold.
We have thinnish SI beds, with an old feather duvet thrown on top to lie on, and another feather duvet over us. We also take a single polycotton sheet each, same as Val A. If it's hot we sleep under the sheets, If cold, we throw our fleeces on top.

We use the same kit whether we'e going Northern or South France. We manage with just a sheet to put over the airbed, and either the sleeping bag or a duvet for on top (never both). The kids usually take a blanket each, one of those fleecy things, which they use for covering up on the journey, they also use them as sunshields or for lying on in the sun, hammocks etc. We take pj's with vest style tops (just the girls and me, not OH in a vest) to keep cool and a long sleeved top to wear over if it is a cold night.
We've devised this after a couple of holidays and associated rows about dragging a load of luggage/ sheets /duvets etc "half way across europe" (anyone elses OH prone to exaggerate during rows) and then dragging it back again unused..but having to be washed.
Thanks for the input folks, It would make life so much simpler if I could get comfortable on a SIM, I can't, I've tried, a number of times, even using two one on top of another and an Airic.
Now I just need to find a middle way as, in common with Lilli above, I'm now in the middle of a skirmish about taking too much bedding. My OH is happy as a bunny in a carrot patch with his Snugpak and a SIM so what's my problem? He'll take them anyway so I guess eveything else will be surplus to requirement. ( he'll read this, lol, I'm being a bit tongue in cheek here )
I'll sort something out lol.
