Hi - This is our 1st trip to France (August) with kids & caravan. I'm looking at insurances eg.

1) Travel Insurance 2) Extra Insurance for covering us in France (Quoted £24 extra),

3) Breakdown Cover (£65 per year) for car & caravan

Can anyone recommend any companies or any other insurance schemes?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Barbara

Caravan Club Ped Pennant is superb, covers medical etc. From experience I know how good they are.

CCC do similar.

Can't beat the Caravan club for service and cover - may not be the cheapest but who really wants cheap insurance when it comes to the crunch.

Having used it and claimed on it as far as I am concerned europ assistance is the best. Caravan and camping club use it too but it can be bought direct.

The scenario you ain't metioned is the one where your caravan is put off the rd due to accident/breakdown but your car is undamaged, some car breakdown policies don't cover this. You should be covered for caravan only recovery on your caravan policy provided it covers Europe as well. You need to check this tho.

You also need your EHIC cards even tho you have travel cover.

Don't just go for the cheapest.
Check and double check what each policy includes.
Cheapest is not always the best.
I have got AA cover for europe not the cheapest but-
I broke down in Copenhagen Friday afternoon the AA-
Recovered me to the Mercedes Garage, when the problem was discovered they arranged and paid for a taxi, arranged and paid for a hotel, arranged and paid for a taxi to the airport, arranged and paid for a flight, arranged and paid for a hire car from the airport. They are transporting the van back to the UK as well.

So in a nutshell I reckon I got at least £400 worth of service.

If I don't use them again this year it has more than paid for itself.

A better return than the bank.
