I sent an e-mail to Nationwide today expressing my feelings. I await their reply with interest!
According to the customer service assistant in Nationwide yesterday, there continues to be no commission charge for purchases using your credit card (though do not use it to take cash from an ATM), purchases using your debit card will attract a 2% charge and cash withdrawals using your debit card will be 2% plus £1 - the 2% apparently is charged by Visa but up to now Nationwide has been meeting that cost. The £1 presumably goes to Nationwide.
