Id probably say go on the autoroute via Rouen , Caen, Rennes and Nantes , seems the quickest route .

Tony
Did the same trip (not the same campsite but near enough - wnet to Pong) this summer. It is practically all autoroute and there are about five or six toll sections but they are not expensive. Would really recommend this route. It is quick, straightforward and a lot less hassle than travelling on the national roads through towns. We did it in two days because we wanted a lazy journey and stopped off at Mont St Michel for a night.

We took this route as well, only we stayed at Martragny. We thought the bridge at Nantes was the most spectacular we'd ever seen. Nice, straightforward route. We ended up at Paree Prenau, St. Hilaire de Riez.
I think you'd be better off getting a car first, it'll wear you out pulling the van that distance.

Try www.viamichelin.com
Great routefinder, even works out your fuel consumption, and the toll charges for you. We use it all the time.

What Floydfan says. We used Viamichelin and cannot fault it, even the 'peripherique' roads were a doddle to navigate.

Is the route from Cherbourg to Vendee likely to be very busy around Bastille day (Thur 14 July)?
Would it be a good idea to avoid travelling between Thur 14 July and Mon 18 July?
Is that a French holiday weekend?

JennyLilacAnne,
Hi and welcome to ukcs! I think that the Bastille Day will only affect you if you're in and around Paris really. It's true that it's a holiday all over France, but we've travelled at this time before, and it's never been a problem!
Claire,
You're welcome. Hope you find it as useful as we do!
