Theres a site in the carefree brochure (C & CC) called camping Bled, it looks lovely! Have looked on Zoover there is a good review, and fab pictures, just wonder if there are supermarkets etc as we have only camped in France before!

There should be a Mercator store in the area as I always seem to be able to find one when in that part of the world. My ability to speak Slovenian is nil but from the small amount of Croat that I can understand and guessing the rest form their website it looks like Mercator sell milk at 0.86 Eur for 1 litre. Are you planning on driving there? Don't forget the sticker for the windscreen if driving through Austria and I think they have a similar system in Slovenia for motorway use but its a while since I have driven my own car there. Slovenian Tourist office in UK used to do some lovely guides and brochures so they might be worth a call.

Driving solo I can do Hook of Holland to Slovenia in the same day so long as I don't stop for too many comfort breaks but it is probably best to make one overnight stop to break the journey.

Stayed there about 5 or 6 years ago, it was lovely there. I understand the site is now a Camping Cheque site, or was, you'd have to check whether it still will be in 2011. You can get to a small village alongside the lake, and from memory there was a smallish supermarket, but of course a lot can change in 5 or 6 years! We did it as part of a trip to both Slovenia and Croatia, and really enjoyed it.
Savanne its just an idea (I fancy an adventure! lol) Its about 750 miles from zebbrugge, site is called camping bled, it looks a stunning place!
Yes we would be driving, and tent camping, looking at the map, I think we would go through Italy? Have suggested idea to OH, will see how keen he is Probably a mad idea?
I've stayed at a site just a bit further down the road from Bled - it's a couple of mile from Lake Bohinj Bistrica excuse spelling it's been a while since I went there! It was a gorgeous place
Just been looking and for some reason, I thought Zebbrugge was a short cheap crossing, turns out it takes 10 hrs at least! Don't think that will be cheap! Doh!
Zeebrugge is only an hour away from Dunkerque, which is one of the cheapest crossings around at the moment. But, you don't have to go 'up' to Zeebrugge - you can join the Belgian (free) autoroutes, and go across Belgium, Lille, to Mons, or wherever, and be in the same place you would be at Zeebrugge, only eight hours earlier! (saved on the times of the crossings)!
I prefer 2 go via Holland and Germany as it avoids the tolls in France and Italy and I find I can make better time on German roads :) If you are thinking of going from Hull they are lovely ferries and I have used them many times and always had a good nights sleep ready for a long drive rather than dashing to Dover and not getting a break. Its all down to personal preferences really.

We stayed at Camp Bled for a few days, in our caravan, this summer. You can read my review here:

There are plenty of supermarkets in the area. We went to a Spar and a Lidl in the nearby town of Lesce. Lidl was easiest as the packaging, although labels, looked the same as the ones in Lidl in the UK.
We took 3 days driving to Bled with 2 night halts on the way. We aim to do a maximum of 350 miles a day. We travelled from Dunkerque, cheap Norfolk Line ferry, and went via France and Belgium using the FREE autoroutes and then into Germany pasing near Stuttgart and Munich before crossing into Austria. We passed near Salzburg before entering Slovenia via the Karawanken tunnel.
As has already been said one needs a motorway vignette for Austria and Slovenia. We bought a 30 day vignette for Slovenia and a 10 day vignette for Austria.
Beware!! we made a geniune mistake on the way home and forgot to buy a new Austrian vignette. We were stopped by a motorway official and fined 120€. We had thought the Austrian one was for a month too.
Slovenia is quite a sophisticated Continental country and you will find everything there that you will find in other Continental countries. It is a beautiful country of lakes and mountains. It is, however, a long way to travel. We found that anyway although we had a total of 5 weeks.
Regarding campsites if we were going again I would consider staying at Camping Sobec rather than Camping Bled.

We did not at look at this site although we passed it several times. It is in the Alan Rogers "Italy, Slovenia, Croatia" guide.
We had to walk through it on the way to catch the "tourist boat" which plies along the lake. Lake Bohinj is beautiful and much less built up than Lake Bled as building development is prohibited. The campsite had lovely modern loos. It was, however, when walked through VERY crowded. That was especially so on the lakeside itself where the caravans and motorhomes were almost touching each other. The fact that every space on this wooded site was packed made it rather untidy looking. In fairness it was early August and so presumably at its busiest.
I hope this helps. If you've got any specific queries please post again and I'll try to answer them.

Yes lake bohinj is the more beautiful of the two lakes, when i first visited in the early 80s use to be extremely quite and easy to pitch on the lake edge. Not so tranqual now but still nice.
Camping Lake bled use to rent out little fridges for campers,a true godscend in my old cycle touring days.
Long time since we visited (on package holiday) so can't comment on cvampsites. However, the lakes and mountains were beautifully clean and not as crowded as their equivalents in other countries.
Shan't be going there again until we can have 5-6 week holidays although we have been considering getting the train and then hiring a car (in Ljubljana?) - has anyone done this?
We have stayed at Camping Bled a couple of times. Excellent location at the end of the lake.
The supermarket at the site entrance is the same company as many of the local small ones and the same price. In the local town of Lesce are the bigger supermarkets on COOP, Aldi, and Mercator.
A leisurely walk round the lake from the site or a more energetic one through the woods or up to Bled Castle. Vintgar Gorge, which is spectacular, is walkable or catch a train from the local station.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
