Hi, is anyone thinking of going to spain after christmas for the winter months ? I would love to but have no experience of camping abroad and would prefer to go with a group, we have a motorhome....................
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
We will be going at the end of Jan and back mid April.
Why not join a Camping Club rally if you can, we are spending 4 weeks at La Manga on one rally then 3 weeks at Benidorm on another and then 2 or 3 weeks somewhere else.
If it's the travelling that is bothering you then take the Portsmouth/Santander ferry, you only have to travel around 500 mile or so then across Spain.
There are thousands that do it so give it a whirl.
We plan to go Feb-April. "camping" or caravanning, motorhoming whatever is the same as in uk but with better weather. You certainly could do a club rally - CC or CC&C do them but google makes it very easy these days.
Any particular problems or concerns can be sorted out on here.

Yes we will be at La Manga from the 4 Feb for 4 weeks and then Benidorm for 3, however our Motorhome is up for sale and we are still looking for a Caravan.
This year we have booked Portsmouth/Santander but I'm concerned about the size of the Cap Finistere, bigger the better as far as I'm concerned. I believe it is the sailing on the 28 Jan. We will probably still be on it but with some strong pills.

Looks like we will both be needing sea sickness pills as we are also on the same sailing along with our friends from Aberdeen who are Motorhomers .
Just hope its not to rough as 24hrs aboard is a long time when your feeling ill

Hi ya all, we to are going over and again we're going from pompey to santander, We have done this sailing and the Bilbao route many times and at different times of the year and have had really smooth crossings in January and rough in april, so it's all a matter of good fortune if you get a rough or smooth sailing.
We sail on 18 jan and are going solo to Calpe for 4 weeks then off to Moncofa for 3 and finishing up in Vilanova park 'till the end of april. All good sites with lots of activities and more like minded idiots doing the same. The last two are C&CC rallies, both tried and tested and all good fun.
Whatever you do and wherever you go just enjoy yourselves and you will go back again.

We have chickened out of the Portsmouth Santander crossing as they don't make a big enough sea sick pill and the cost was £1060.
Instead we are doing the Hull Zeebrugge crossing instead of Dover Calais as it does not work out a great deal more cost wise.
Zeebrugge to La Manga is not a lot different than Calais to La Manga so it's the middle ground with around 1260 miles to travel rather than the 800 mile it would be going Portsmouth Sandander La.Manga

Mike we are only paying £376 one way for a 7.1 metre van and CRV a £1060 for both ways seems steep
Yes we were paying around £400 to go out with the motorhome which includes our dog but when I asked the Camping club to change it to a car and caravan and add the return journey in April the cost went up to £1060.
They checked it again but said that Brittany Ferries would not budge on the price, this is why we are now going Hull Zebbrugge.

i leave this week plymouth to santander, car caravan 1 person and dog return end of april cost 639 .return only having a seat for me .but kennels cost about 70quid return. for me its cheaper than driving through france. i,m lucky my truck comes under the 11metre length.
i left an earlier post about fares booked through C&CC. i went on brittany ferries site and got the one way fare of £443, spoke to the club and the cheapest was £508 for the same trip. When i questioned this they said to check again when i wanted to book. This i did the following week. Again i looked on BF site and got the price of £719 for pompey/santander out and st malo/pompey back. Again the club came back with £805. I queried this and the woman rang off and spoke to BF. It turned out that the new fares had not been updated and the price she came back with was £714. Like everyone else, I can't see why the price to change went up so high. It does make you wonder.
Take the Spanish Ferries as driving though Frace at this ime of year can be very tricky. There are not many sites open and parking in aires leaves you extremely vunerable. Personally I dont like La manga but there are so many lovely sites that you wil be spolit for choice! I am currently sitting just deciding whether to go to th beah today or the pool in November! Do it!!
Many many thanks to all of you who have taken the time to reply, seems easy to those who have already done it, I have managed to get hold of an old CCC winter sun brochure, we are members of the CCC so will progress through them I guess, again, many thanks to you all..............
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
