If you don't want to stop at Dover - there is a travel lodge type hotel at Ashford on the M20 on a complex with cinema, pizza hut, beefeater, Mc D's and Kentucky. You could stop here and have a meal and then the tunnel is probably 10 mins away max next morning. With an early crossing you could get a full days driving easily.

This year we drove straight onto ferry at Dover and drove for a couple of hours for a breakfast stop at Baie de Somme air then onto Chartres (about 5 hours later) for an overnight. Drove for about 7 hours next day to Uzerche for another overnight then a drive next day for about 5 hours to the Pyrenees. 7 days in Pyrenees, 2 at the med, 7 in the Ardeche, 2 in Burgundy, 2 in St Omer (near Calais) then straight up the road from Dover. Three weeks + 3 days holiday.[/P.
Thanks for the above info. Can i ask what was the most you drove in any day? On the way back from Paris in July we drove the whole way, got ferry to dover and all the way back to Glasgow. Think it was 13 hours all in but that was a good 2 hour break at Canterbury for lunch also. Whilst i didnt share any of the driving with DH i would have been happy to do so if he had asked so i suppose on this trip we could easily share the driving to get us there quicker. My original plan was to leave here at 6am get a 3/4pm eurotunnel and drive a couple more hours at the other end. Stop have a meal and rest and then up early the next day for the rest of the trip down south. another reason for wanting to limit the length of time for stopovers is because next yr i will be doing my Honours degree and will be using a lot of my holiday allocation for study leave so dont have a great deal of time for this holiday. All in all the trip would have to be no more than 14 days including stopovers.

try Eurocamp surprisingly they are just as cheap, if not cheaper, than canvas outside the main seasons. I had a look today for a June hol with Eurocamp and with Canvas in the Vendee and Eurocamp was coming out cheaper by over £100 which was about 20% cheaper for the lower costing June month. In main school hols Canvas will be cheaper though.
I just priced Eurocamp and the price difference was considerable. For a 3 bed mobile home with Canvas on 2/9/11 for 11 nights its was £450 but Eurocamp wanted over £1000 for 10 nights! Such a vast difference in prices between 2 similar companies!! Needless to say if we go ahead we will prob go with Canvas.

Hi, the most we drove on any day was to and from Dover. This year then drove on to Chartres (5 hours further) with only the ferry rest. Would never do it again. Apart from that the most we drove was 6/7 hours with stops. In my opinion that is long enough - tiring but also, I want to enjoy my trip. Also, this year we made more of stopovers, ensuring we reached wherever about 2/3 in time for a relaxing rest/stroll around nearby town/village, dinner instead of hammering it as we did last year reaching wherever about 6. Much, much more relaxing.

gosh that is a huge difference!!! I was doing the same with June where I found Eurocamp to be the cheaper based on the Vendee
We do the same sort of drive every September from near Stirling. we always drive overnight to dover.I do most of the driving, but OH takes over to give me a break.Once we are in France we play it by ear, sometimes stopping an hour down the road, sometimes we keep going till we both feel as if we need a break. It is perfectly do-able as you plan, but just be prepared to stop if necessary.
