I am in the process of planing next years trip to the south of france,(2 adults and 2 kids camping) and we are going from Calais driving to the area around Dijon and planing to stop in a formula1 type motel for 1 night, then next morning completing the trip down. Problem: I cannot find a popular cheap motel chain in the area that will accomodate a 2+2 family, strange, but if i left 1 of the kids at home there would be no problem.
Without having to sleep in the car or break out the pup tents anyone got any ideas?.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Domaine de Massereau - there are lots of reviews on here - lovely site, great for children, and near enough for a day at the beach if you want.
The B&B chain of hotels at Dijon Sud will take four people per room. You may have to book pronto though as these family rooms go quickly.
An alternative may be to look for a Chambre d'Hote - often these are small family run places, with a real French atmosphere, and have 'flexible' rooms which they can make up to suit a particular family size.
There are two Formule 1 places in Dijon. These have standard 3-berth rooms but I recall someone saying on an earlier thread that you could squash four in.
On the other hand, they're often so cheap that you could have two rooms! (We used the F1 at Nancy-Sud this summer and it was our cheapest night's stay - including campsites!)

Formule1 used to be cheap, and worth the saving for not having en-suite, but these days they are almost the same price as the other chains that have en-suite, this year we used Premiere Classe and found them to be superb, we did Dunkerque "Armbouts Cappel" and Chalon-Sur-Saone, both had a Campanile restaraunt in the grounds, which was good as you get 10% of the meal for being in the Premiere Classe, my friend got a very good deal at the Etap in Dijon, cheaper than Premiere Classe and B&B, so they are worth checking out, what I like about these type of hotels is that most have secure gated cctv parking, a must for us as we tow a small trailer, so a little more secure, most rooms are for 3, but I have often seen Mum,Dad and two children emerging from the rooms, I think it is only a big issue if 4 adults use the one room.
I second what Val asys about B&B hotels. Love Domaine de Masserau, going again in 2011. If you are in the Caravan Club, book through them for Masserau, its quite a bit cheaper. If you can find a Kyriad that has a quadruple room, it might be also worth looking into.
Altenatively, if you went down the A10/A75 to Clermont Ferrand, I can highly recommend the Hotel Arena as excellent.
Many thanks for those tips. We're just about to book a couple of overnights for next year - shall look at a bigger range of chains!

Thank you all for your input. the 2 boys are 10 and 7 so i was thinking of top and tailing them in a single bed, what i dont want is to be refused a room on the night, but then again we have slept in the car on many a trip in France, but why make life uncomfortable, i think i will risk it at a Formula 1. we are at Domaine de Masserau for 20days in August, we normally go for castels sites, there's something about the sites that always appeals.

Thanks for that link - Great, when you read the terms and conditions it does state that you can have 2 children under 11 in a room with there parents, and at 32 euros the cheapest we have seen - Thanks
