Don,t know about categories of Aussie cattle dogs but my uncle in Aus had one of those, remember he was always hunting snakes ( dangerous in Aus) and one morning brought me a large (thankfully dead) brown snake. In the end he came off second best to one.
As for sites western France like bonn Anse slides are very fast.

Sounds about right to me. ACDs have a pathalogical hatred of snakes-must be the Dingo in them. My one, when he was a puppy, stood over a piece of rope for 2 hours and then pounced. Now he spends the summer months hunting Adders and Grass Snakes.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
If you want all-singing all-dancing right on the coast and distance doesn't matter I'd pick the Vieux Port at Messanges. They even have a little train to take you to the beach. Reviews are here ...
We camped at the Albrecht Plage next door which was a bit calmer and had a nice restaurant, but I have heard many good things of the Vieux Port. Don't know about the dog situation there.
BTW I just read the dog stuff posted above and if yours is a Category 1 dog you can't take it into France in the first place. I don't think yours is though. If you're in any doubt a phone call to the French Embassy might save you a lot of bother.
