Looking to use the Fern Pass, anyone had experience with it in early April?

Should be no problems, IIRC there are signs that tell you if it's open or not.
I have used it in January with no problem whatsoever so April should be fine.

Word of caution - we had to decide on the Fern pass or Brenner last April (Thursday before Easter whatever date that was) and decided on the Brenner.  We were very pleased that we did as about 5 minutes into the journey it began snowing heavily and the ploughs were lining up at services ready to come out, I'm convinced we only managed because the lorries formed a convoy in the nearside lane and they kept the road pretty clear - nearer the top it was a white out with visibility down to about 10 yards.

Where were you going to+from?????
Most people use the Fern Pass to get to the Brenner.

We had a choice of getting to the Brenner via the Fern or otherwise - we chose not to go via Fern and later came upon the snow - I was just really pointing out that snow in the region can come on quickly and be severe even in April.

Sorry for being unclear I must have had one too many with lunch on the pub!
