Hi

We are camping at Mimizan Plage south of Bordeaux during August. I am sure most of our time will be spent on the beach, but we would also like to visit a nearby vineyard.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

We have an 8 yr old who will be with us, so not looking for anything too formal, just some laid back fun!

Thank you

As I recall you're a bit far south for the best vinyards, it's all sand dunes and pine trees at Mimizan and all along that coast.
There are some a bit further north near Medoc, on the peninsula at the mouth of the Gironde. And of course, there's St Emilion (and Pomerol) just southeast of Bordeaux, which is a very pretty town.

I know exactly what you want, but can't really find all that much in English. Something like this:

but probably closer to your campsite?

Sorry not to be more help.. but at least I've boosted you back to the top.

Liz

The Office de Tourisme in Bordeaux gives loads of ideas in English for vineyards to visit in the area.

Thanks for your replies. I have done some internet research, but was hoping for some personnal recommendations.

Lizex, we don't mind a bit of a drive. The link you gave looks very interesting. Have you been to any of the ones you mentioned?

Thank you

Although it's a while ago, we had a fantastic tour of the Chateau de Beychevelle.  We did the vineyards, then where the wine was processed, and then down into the cellars, where the wine bottled were stored, and we bought some St Julien wine, which we kept for several years - succumbing when poverty struck and we couldn't afford to buy a bottle for Christmas.  It would now be worth a lot more than we paid for it (which wasn't cheap - but you're under no obligation to buy).

It's a lovely Medoc vineyard, - perhaps too far north for you - but if you're in that area, definitely worth a visit.

Not for 20 years or so! The town of St Emilion is gorgeous though. I was prepared for it to be all warehouses etc but it's a lovely little stone town with a church carved in the rock. Glad we did all this when we were young, I don't think we'd have got our lad round a vinyard when he was younger ... perhaps now he's 18
