Wow!  what a really uplifting and inspiring thread!

We are in our 40's and view retirement with a certain amount of dread - but these contributions are really interesting and very positive

Thank you

My OH and I are in our early 40's and although we've got a way to go, we're already planning our trips away for when we retire. Even thinking we might sell up and travel permanently, or rent the house out for six months of the year.
Would love to do it now with the kids, but with the mortgage to pay cost is prohibitive!
Roll on retirement!

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

I'm well retired and my wife will be in a few years - then we hope to start doing some serious travelling!  We may give up the little tent in favour of a trailer or something you can stand up in  ....

However, I think the biggest problem for older people is actually driving. I know some friends who no longer feel fit or willing to drive and I've certainly seen some older people who hadn't ought to be driving (not generalising - I've seen plenty of younger drivers who oughtn't to be allowed in a car!) . Back to the train then?
