There are some lovely sites on either side of the Cherbourg peninsula all within 45 mins of Caen. My parents live near Vire and when visiting i come across loads of site all around that area, i cannot resist checking them out and they are all good with varying atmospheres. Use the campsite search facility and you will find loads of sites in this area...

Avoid Points de Jour near Caen port if you like it quiet at night. Stayed there last week and was given the worse pitch and there was a party taking place outside a static until 2.30am.

From Suffolk you'll probably find Dover/Calais or Dover/Dunkerque the easiest ferry crossing.
We could do with more details about what you require from the site, too! Do you have children? What ages? When are you travelling? What sort of site do you like - all-singing, or three pitches in an orchard? All these are important, and can make huge differences to site recommendations.
Camping Omaha Beach was where we stayed many years ago on our first trip to Normandy. It sits at the top of the cliffs overlooking, as the name suggests, the Omaha landing beach and is fairly central to all the WW2 sites. Bayeux is also quite close which is well worth the visit. You can see details of the site on their website.

We are just off to Cote de Nacre , which is a 40 minute drive from the ferry at ouistreham. It is a yelloh village site with excellent facilities and is family oriented.
Normally there will be about 30 outfits on a 140 pitch estate, so you can be as isolated as you want. 17th Sept however is "last night festival of music" . does go on a bit, and a bit noisy, so if thats not your thing, move on before.
