Merry Xmas everybody!

My wife and I have just purchased a new Rapido. Can anybody supply information on Tips for touring in France? We are new to the game!

We would like to know about Power, Water fill up/discharge, parking , tolls, breakdown, etc.

Are you allowed to park overnight in towns?

Any information at all would be extremely appreciated.

Many Thanks, Rapido Mike

1) Electricity usually 5/6 amp supply but sometimes up to 10 amps. Cross polarity a common feature in France so you will need a tester and some reversed leads. Two types of sockets, the French/European 2 pin variety and the CEE17 UK style plugs.

2) Most sites have a ready supply of drinking water taps with press button taps are usual. They don't always make the same provision for dirty water disposal but you could always use one of the Turkish loos to dispose of it.

3) Parking, do you mean solo? If so most French towns have lots of parking. Although a lot of it is chargeable they have this quirk that it is free over lunch time!

4.) Tolls have a look here  http://www.asf.fr/control/index.aspx?alias=home

5 ) Breakdown make sure you have good insurance cover, Caravan Club Red Pennent is very good.

6 ) Overnight parking in towns. Most towns have a Municipal camp site, I think you would find this the best option.

Hi Mike,

welcome to UKCS. If you want a cracking site for directions in France, try viamichelin. It has a built-in fuel and road toll calculator. We've found it absolutely invaluable.

BTW.....some excellent advice/info there from David.

Mike

When I replied I did not realise that you had a motor home, for some reason I was thinking of a folding caravan!  So my comment about staying in a town was made with that in mind. As Pete and Jackie have said elsewhere France is very geared up towards the motor home. Someone we met in France was telling us about something called French Passion which, as I understand it, a list of Aires and and overnight parking places. Have a look at this link http://www.motorcaravanning.co.uk/travel/france.htm
