Fuel was indeed very expensive this year compared to previous years. The cheapest diesel I found in France was £1.15 in a Carrefour station, as in the UK the cheapest prices are at the supermarkets.

In Spain we found £1.08.

I cant understand why unleaded is so much more expensive abroad than diesel. In the UK its the other way round.

Diesel used to be cheaper over here years ago until diesel cars became really popular. The government certainly cottoned onto this.

Other European countries have always put less tax on diesel than petrol. The UK has always taxed diesel & petrol equally. More recently the before tax price of diesel has risen above petrol due to higher demand for diesel, ie supply & demand.

This is the same all over Europe. In France or anywhere else on't continent the price difference between diesel & petrol is much less than what it was yrs ago.

Although I can see a lot of more economical cars than mine about, Laura's posts have made me feel so much happier about my Mercedes C240.

I'm glad. It is interesting reading what others consumption has been like.
