I've researched loads about storing across the border in Spain. The decent storage companies include insurance in the annual fee and when I delved into arranging my own insurance for a cheaper storage fee it worked out more expensive. I'd suggest going for one with insurance included.
Although I'm only taking ours next week, thought I'd pass on just one nugget gratefully from 'oxter' who kindly told me "We keep an older 'van stored in the Loire Valley for our European odysseys - you won't regret having a 'van overseas".
Hi Percy, We have stored our van in France for the last 3 years and had no problems whatsoever. We insure through K. Drewe, give them a call on 0845 4085929. You will need the storage address if you were to take insurance out with them but that can be given at a later date. To store the van down south at Argeles-Sur-Mer, we pay 180€ per year and another 40€ for them to to tow it onto our pitch and take it away at the end of our holiday. Hope this helps
We store our caravan at Logis de Breuil near Royan. It costs us 235 euros for the year, which includes towing the van to and from the pitch and also washing the van prior to our arrival. Our insurance is arranged through MMA Assurances in Royan and this year has cost us 80 euros. Storing our caravan in France works very well for us.

We store, near Angers.
I've given up insuring ... we're covered via the car and Greenflag whilst towing, so think the risk is pretty minimal for anything else ... never had to claim over five years of ownership ... so reckon the money saved is better used elsewhere.
On our first trip to France OH got a bit too close to the kiosk of the filling station, the "little dent" in the side of the caravan cost £4000 to repair as we needed a complete new side. I was glad we had insurance.
