having spent the last couple of years camping in Brittany for our hols we are thinking of maybe going to the Vendee next year.
Does anyone have experience of any good sites in the region. I habe looked at the sites finder and reviews but was wondering if anyone could add anything more here.
We like a quieter site (our 18 yr old son doesn't come on holiday with us anymore), preferably near the sea/a beach and the wife does like to have clean/plentiful showers/toilets!
Thanks in advance
Jim

Teach a man to fish and he'll sit around on a boat all day drinking beer!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Have a look at zagarella at tranche sur mer or ocean d'or at jard. If you venture a little further you could enjoy the area around royan which is rather lovely.
I would def. stick to the La Tranche area of the Vendee. We visited friends at Zagarella a few years ago and it was well placed. The only neg was that on the day we went the toilets smelt very badly!! but like I say it was a while ago
As warbis says, the extra drive to Royan or La Rochelle is worth it.
------------- Are you sure you've read the instructions?
We are thinking of doing the opposite next year, but we are concerned that the weather may be much like here in the UK. We are looking at southern Brittany, what is your experience of that are and in particular the weather whilst you were there?
Thanks in advance
Jeff

Have been to southern Brittany first two weeks of august on numerous occasions and weather always been good. Around 23 and sunny. But always a gamble. The weather in royal this year was very mixed
Hi, I've just posted a review about the site we stayed at this year La Mouette Cendree in Jard/St Vincent sur Mer. (The review's not been approved yet so google it as I don't think I'm supposed to leave a link here?)
It's a small site, quiet when we visited in July, and a great base for exploring the area by car or bike. There's a heated pool and we always had hot water and clean facilities. The site owners are very friendly too.

The weather in france has been very mixed generally this year, a real one-off! However, I have been to the vendee every year for the past 5 years for two weeks in end of July/August. Generally speaking out of 14 days you will have one or maybe two dull or rainy days, the majority are nice warm sunny days, and maybe 4 or 5 boiling, need to be in the pool days.
I go to a christian holiday campsite near St Gilles Croix de Vie called Le Pas Opton.
Enjoy!

In my experience the weather, when sunny, is better in Southern Brittany than it is in Devon (where I live), it is very warm generally in August. But as has been said, it is a gamble!!!!

We went to the Vendee a couple of years ago, one site we pre-booked through the c&C club was the Bahamas Beach, a great site but you really want to take bikes with you.

Hi, we've just had 17 nights in Brittany near to Beg Meil/Benodet (lovely area) and overall the weather has been pretty good. We had 3 or 4 days with either cloud, heavy showers, or drizzle but the rest of the holiday had long sunny spells/blue skies. Temperatures were between 20 - 30 degrees and didn't always match the weather reports. We've had several holidays in Brittany and not had a really bad one yet....its usually a bit warmer than the UK.
We've been to the vendee area for the past 4 years, granted in statics, but the facilities are generally good.
La Tranche Sur Mer - lovely town, nice beach, Bel campsite is very small and quiet, not a lot going on, basic pool facilities
Zagarella at Longville sur Mer is just up the road from La Tranche, great beaches all around, the site is nice and spacious, great pool complex, has evening entertainment, so can get a bit noisy - good play area for kids.
Bonne Anse Plage at La Palmyre near Royan is a big Siblu site with a good pool complex, lots of evening entertainment and has other things on site like crazy golf, climbing wall etc...the zoo at La Palmyre is the best zoo I've ever been to
Les Ecureils at St Hilaire De Riez - this is where we went this year - I have posted a review but it's not been published yet. Its a great site, quite small with a fab pool complex and really lovely facilities, so clean and the touring pitches were a good size. The beach is directly across the road and is lovely. Little in the way of evening entertainment (which suits us), the kids play area is huge, there are restaurants within walking distance and it's between St Jean de Monts and St Giles, both nice little towns.
We love the area, there's lots to do, the beaches are generally lovely and clean and there's loads of cycling to be done. We've always been the last 2 weeks in June until this year, we just got back on Saturday...the weather this year hasn't been as good as previous years, but don't know if this was just unlucky or if it is generally worse at this time of year.
We're booking onto Sequoia Park at Marennes for next year, but if we had to go back to any of the sites we've been to before, I'd pick Zagarella or Les Ecureils.

We have spent the last couple of years at Benodet (Camping du Letty) but now fancy a change.
