just got back from vendee, had a lovely time although the weather was not as good as i hoped, we are thinking of going nxt yr but maybe further this time, we would have to go in july though due to hubbys rota whats the weather supposed to be like then anyone been july time.

The further south you can go the better the weather even this summer!

The Ardeche is usually warm to hot. the Dordogne often has heavy rain and then hot!

We were down in the Southern Ardeche for a fortnight July last year, and July 2009 and the weather was outstanding on both occasions, wall to wall sunshine, and temps never below +35DegC all the time we were there, in fact the odd day, took temps to +40DegC, on those days we went upto one of the mountain lakes, were it was 10DegC cooler.

Having spent many years going to the Cote d Azur, I can say the climate in the Southern Ardeche, is pretty much the same during the day, the only main difference being at night time, the Ardeche tends to get cooler towards the middle of the night, which makes for a much more comfortable nights sleep, than down on the Cote d Azur, especialy if you are in a tent, or even worse a caravan.

                 You are correct about the rule of thumb, but the law of averages, definatley say's that the weather will be better the further South you go, when it come to France lol.
