In an attempt to help those men too paranoid to wear lycra swimwear (my husband included) I thought it might be useful to compile a list of French sites that allow swimming shorts.  No need to lecture me on the benefits of lycra. I know but OH having none of it!

Chateau de Marais in Chambord, Loire

Les Peneyrals near Sarlat, Dordogne

Parc de Fierbois, Ste Caterine de Fierbois, Loire

 

Les Peneyrals had far more French and Dutch clientelle but still only saw a handful of lycra trunks all holiday! Even the French lifeguard had long shorts.

Les Peupliers, Couhé near Poitiers. And it has a fantastic waterpark.

It's been in the French Press a bit this year. If you can read French (or Google Translate) here's the article about how it's in the France Soir (paper) top 100 this year, and doesn't want to be five-star, as that would make people think it's more expensive than it is.

And here's the article about how Marcel left Paris 43 years ago to start a campsite, and now his grandchildren are going into the business.

It's a real family place and they want you to feel comfortable while you're there whether you're a shorts or a speedos family. And the waterpark is pretty good and open till midnight:)

Yes, Huw. Like the site we once found which allowed teenagers to swim in cut-off jeans. Hygiene ? forget it ! So we never went back.
