Your car insurance only covers caravan for third party risks while towing. It will not repair a damaged caravan. It depends how much the caravan is worth, if only a few £100s(like mine)I would agree it ain't worth it.

I returned yesterday from towing ours down there and leaving it in Salou/Reus at Caravancare San Martin, possibly the same place as the O/P is considering. We're new to this way of traveling, but after a terrorist bombing outrage this year that killed 15 innocent people, weeks after we had been in the exact same spot, I realised I've had enough of 'exotic' travel and it was time to go more mainstream. What price life against a few euros on tolls?
So now our ancient old caravan is in Reus, waiting for us to spend weeks/months at a time. We have no intention of spending July & August there with the large crowds, but certainly May, June & September. Last Thursday was a mere 34 degs in Salou when I left.
I learned that gas bottles can't be stored, so that came back with me and that was about all that was a pain. Our size caravan means an annual charge of 240 euros. The storage site owners are Dutch folks, really nice people and I don't feel I've just left it there, but that they are looking after it and checking it out. There were high wire fences and some angry looking dogs running around. I checked everything out while there and I can only praise the place.
If you are considering the same facility, I'm happy to answer any questions if I can.
We store our van in the link, it is a old van so we dont bother with insurance. Cost is 250 euros a year, we arrive to find it sited on a pitch hooked up and washed for us. The simple solution to uk touring is buy another van, we have one in the uk on a seasonal pitch at Blackpool and we maintian storage for that in the uk, the storage in the uk costs us £260 pounds.
Nick57, thanks for the tip off about Gas storage that will be a real pain as i intend to fly down for the summer and want to leave the car in the UK. We are leaving the van in Carvisa at Cambrils. We talked to the guy from your storage place when we were at Sanguli and he said they were fairly full...

Sorry, slightly confusing, but I should of stressed it was the UK gas that's not suitable. If you swap over to the continental stuff they have some sort of valve that releases any dangerously high pressure and therefore can be left in storage.
We also want to make use of the cheap flights to Reus on the odd occasion and have the caravan delivered to a pitch, so it looks like a quick conversion for us too.

Well I'm sure you'll not like to hear this, but imo this is a daft decision. Unless you're going to use a van all year round in UK or have a few extended breaks in Spain, financially you'd be much better off selling up and going to a mobile home in the Summer. No insurance, servicing or storage costs - probably totalling £500 per year at least.
On the campsite we stop on in the Costa Dorada it would be far cheaper to pay yearly storage cost 395€ + 14nts campsite fees = 947€ total than 2 weeks in a mobile home on the same site = 1603€ for cheapest 2 berth mobile home.
It depends on circumstances, If your caravan is oldish, you have had a few yrs use out of it then it may be worth leaving it down there until its scrap if you are happy to go to same site for a few yrs. Theres no need to insure it if its old, or service running gear if its only being towed a couple of miles to site. Interior jobs you can do yourself while you are there.
You may not even need to use anything inside the 'van that needs servicing anyway. Most campers use an outside cooker & a domestic fridge in the awning.

We are considering leaving our caravan(large twin axle),
(on the outskirts of Benidorm on a nice touring site),
pitched up with awning and all the other bits for around 4200 euros per year.
No towing, no building or dismantling and can visit anytime for as many weeks or months as we choose
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
