Supermarket prices in France seemed to have gone up by about the same amount as they have here over the past year, but what we did find was that (particularly in Carrefour) the value ranges of food were really good quality. We spent more than we would at home when shopping but that was because we were on holiday so we had a few more "treats". Eating out was no more expensive than last year. Had a 3 course meal for 2 adults and 2 children for 60 euros inc wine and soft drinks, which we thought was pretty good value. Overall it's about the same as here.

Maple Syrup and Espresso coffee - that was our discovery this year. The silver tins of coffee were between 2 - 3 euros whereas I bought one in Tescos just before we left and it was £6. Needless to say amongst the copious amounts of wine we bought back we also had a number of tins of coffee and jars of maple syrup!
:o)
------------- Plans 2012:
Hopefully buy a trailer tent and then maybe explore Burgandy!
Some things are more expensive and some are cheaper, but we dont care as wees on holiday and cant be bothered to spend half our holiday going around comparing prices.

That is our take on it too. We work hard and save hard all year for our holiday and it is still our favourite holiday destination. We only spent the same number of euros this year that we have spent for the last 3 years and our holiday was as full of treats as its always been.
It is expensive just now because of exchange rates etc but you can take a load of stuff with you to save on food costs and you can live cheaply by self catering and not travelling too far when you get to France. Book the ferry early for a great deal and it's still a cheap great destination in relative terms.
Just hope for good weather - it's been great for us the past 2 weeks+
