Over the last two years during our 4wks touring in France we've come across lots of couples who've 'done' Croatia. We're considering doing the same with our tourer.
Is there anybody out there who can offer advice on routes, campsites etc or anything else that could be useful for planning such a trip? Thanks in anticipation.
PS Is there a facility on this site for people to post blogs with photos.

I'm not a computer expert, so I hope someone more knowledgeable will answer you, but I would say that there isn't a facility on this site itself but lots of us do have blogs, using blogspot, travelpod, wordpress etc, and then enter the website address in their profile where it says "homepage".

Please read my review on Camp Amarin, in Rovinj in Croata, we had a great time - a very special place to visit.
I would say in 2010 they were just installing the toll booths for the roads, so I would have thought they would be up and running now.
We visited Germany first, then Austria, drove through Slovenia, stayed in Croatia for 10 nights, drove and stayed in Venice, couple of days in Lake Garda then drove up through to France and home. Not a holiday to do in a fortnight, we took a month but thoroughly worth it.
Any more questions, don't hesitate to get back to me.

Hi Aitch
We travelled to Slovenia and Croatia in July/August 2010.
To save me typing it all again here are the 4 main "write-ups" that I put on UKC. I think they will tell you a lot of our Croatian experiences and the journey there and back again.

A good video here gets to Croatia about 5mins into video..
Thats me and my family in that video. We have just added part 5 to www.campervanculture.com so lots more to see from our trip. One thing I would say is that dont go in the kids summer holidays as it got to 49*c in the van and over 45*c outside. Campsites average out at about 20 euro per night diesel was about £1.10pl, the veg in the supermarkets was rubbish so try and buy fresh from the road side, about £2 for a beer in a bar and in the north the pitches on the campsites are tiny and very full.
Its a great place to snorkel, almost as good as Australia so you will need to take your snorkel and flippers. Its a great place to visit....

just had a thought - Ratty - is this a facility that could be added, a list of blogs? Another forum I contribute to has a link at the top for blogs and people post them - I use it frequently and find it very handy especially the photos posted on them.
Crotia is highly recommended.........we've stayed on the island of Krk three times now and would definately go back (probably 2013). It is a long drive but well worth the effort.
We've down Croatia about six times now. We love it and would highly recommend it. Not sure why people make comment about the long drive. Calais to Rovinj or Porec on the Istrian coast is about 850 miles so not much different to Spain or Southern France. The journey down is much more scenic and mostly toll free.

The reason that I said that it is a long journey is that my Tom Tom shows our journey from Dunkerque to Omis on the Dalmation Coast via Bled as being 1224 miles!! As towing we struggle to average 50mph that was 25+ hours driving. Whilst France and Germany were toll free Austria and Slovenia charge motorway tolls by the vignette method, plus extra for some tunnels, and Croatia uses toll booths so quite a lot of toll charges too.
In addition on our outward journey we had torrential rain nearly all the way from Dunkerque to Bled. Despite it being the end of July the weather in Austria and Germany was some of the worst rain I have towed in in nearly 20 years of Continental towing. The weather factor added to the demands of the journey and made it seem longer. We aim to share the driving, between the 2 of us and drive a maximum of c300 miles per day.
Our journey, also, includes nearly 300 miles each way from our home on Merseyside to Dover. Our total mileage, home to home, for our Croatian holiday was 3,303 miles and our, diesel-guzzling, Sorento used 860 litres of fuel cost just over £750!!!
Incidentally my TT shows Dunkerque to Rovinjas being 952 miles and Porec as 939 miles! Incidentally Dunkerque to Cannes is only 740 miles!
I'm not saying this to score points but just to ensure that people are fully aware of the journey length, and I like playing with figures LOL!!
We DID like Slovenia and Croatia and the scenic journey there - especially when the weather was good. The weather in Croatia was hot and site at Omis was lovely but we DID find it a long way!! In fact we had originally planned to travel on to Dubrovnik but the hot weather made us lazy.
We may go back AFTER we retire when we can take the journey even more slowlyand linger at more places enroute. Only a few more years unless HM Gov destroys our pensions.
Best wishes
Tim
