We're going for price over quality - no First Class lounge and paying with PayPal so no charges either! £38.00 return - and we could have done it for £34.00!!
The only reason I have chosen the 1st class lounge is because the last time we used Norfolk Line it was a 6am crossing and I got fed up with the amount of dossers lying around stretched out on the sofas. Said I would never use them again. At this price you can't afford not to but will have the sactuary of the quiet lounge. I HOPE.
We found seats this year - good ones, at the far end of the self-service restaurant, and to the left then almost back on yourself, there are some circular tables with 'banquette' type seating - we had one whole circular table to ourselves on both journeys! I don't think people walk right around the end and so that whole section is under-used.
At the moment the Caravan Club pricing seems to be the same, on our dates, for whatever length of caravan, but the First Class Lounge prices are halved booking through the Caravan Club, so for those who are members it's worth checking out both the DFDS offer using the code NEC11, AND directly through the Caravan Club, and comparing prices for like for like crossings.

1st class is good stuff, with free tea & coffee, soft drinks & fruit, plus plenty of papers to read. Was offered free through CC for 2011 sailings, half price for 2012, so with the £78 return, we are paying the same for 2012 as we did this year.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
If you add on the First Class Lounge then booking through DFDS it will cost £12 per person, per journey!! £96.00 return on top of your ferry costs, if there are four of you! Booking through the Caravan Club it will cost £6 per person per journey, but still that's £48.00 extra!
Last time we crossed, in both directions, we found good seating at the far end of the self-service restaurant, around to the left and the seating in that area was quite quiet, compared with the remainder of the ship. We had a whole circular table and 'banquette' seating to ourselves, and it was quiet - just other couples eating or reading!
Children aged 8 and over are allowed in. There are 2 separate rooms, 1 with dining tables, chairs, TV etc plus the refreshments, and 1 with swivel chairs (I think this is supposed to be the quiet room).
We travelled out 16.00 on the 1st saturday of the school holidays and after 9 hrs + drive down to Dover from Lancashire, it was very nice in comparison to the scrummage on the main decks.
£114 return for 2012, same as 2011, so I'm very happy.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
