Hi.  We're thinking of hiring an RV to drive across Canada from Toronto to Vancouver.  Has anyone done this before and what were your experiences - good or bad?  Also we have to go end of April / early May so not sure what to expect on the sites.  I imagine they might be pretty dead.

Have you got room for a little one?

I don't eat much and would do the chores.

We did Vancouver to Calgary this JUly, it wasgreat. I would expect you could get snow in some areas at that time.

The sites were good, a lot are owned by Parks Canada which are more basic, some have showers etc some do not. They are in the National Parks area.

We had three weeks and did 2000 kms.Seriously thinking of going back next year, either July or September.

A lot had winter parking, which were hard standings with electric.

Commercial sites had more facilities, but cost more.

Toronto to Vancouver is a very long way-right across Canada!

Meant to say, if you collect an RV in Toronto and drop it off in Vancouver there might be a big one way charge!

It is awesome though, fabulous scenery and great people. Fuel was about 90p a litre, for gasolineour RV was 25' long with a 6.0 litre V8 which seems the norm, 15mpg ish!

You might come up against a lot of snow too.  We were in Canada in May (OK a LONG time ago in 1976) but flew into Winnipeg to find eighteen inches of snow!  However, the roads are cleared pretty well but I'm not sure about campsites!  We drove back across to Dryden in Ontario, and on the way called at a waterfall which was completely frozen over.  When we arrived in Dryden temperatures warmed up almost overnight, and three days later 'Spring' arrived, the trees immediately became green, the snow disappeared, and the lovely frozen waterfall turned back to water again.

A few days after that temperatures rose to 'Phew' and it was like our mid-summer!

We did Dryden (well the nearest 'mainline' station, to Toronto by train a couple of weeks later, through over 1,000 miles of trees - but saw the Northern Lights en-route so it was worth it!
