Travelling from Caen to near Sarlat next summer thinking of going Tours to Chateauroux on the D943. Outfit will be car and caravan, any comments on the standard of the road.

I did Caen - Pyrenees last year stopping in the Dordogne overnight. I took this road (although not towing) and from what I recall it was fine. I think it was part of this stretch that was being redone nearer to Chateauroux.

Hopefully someone who has towed will be able to help more.

It's the old N143 and is ok for towing.

Another route for crossing to the A20 from the A10 is the N147 which goes from Poitiers to Limoges. Again another good road.
