There has been some talk on our winter site in Almeria that the rabies vaccines given to our dogs in the UK that last for 3 years are not valid in the Andulucian area of Spain and all dogs have to have a yearly injection to comply with local laws . This originated from a local Vet , i am surprised as i cant believe the Spanish treat there own dogs this way . Any comments ?

We have taken ours to Almeria in the past on a UK rabies jab. Didn't have any problems and no-one checks anyway. The borders are all drive through as I am sure you know anyway.

As the Spanish generally treat their dogs with contempt I can't see any taking theirs to the vet each year for a jab.

As I recall the Spanish have draconian anti-rabies laws and I have heard they inoculate dogs in public once a year so they are not just inoculated but *seen* to be so. I don't think this would have any effect on British dogs whose jabs comply with EU law.

The duration of the vaccine varies according to the country but the rule governing the time appies to which country your dog comes from.

Spain aren't alone in this the same applies to several eu countries including France.Saxo1

I wonder how much it costs in Spain or France for the rabies jab compared to the UK - does anyone know?

If you have the injection done in Spain or France then it will only be valid for one year and the vet will stamp the passport accordingly.

In Spain approx. €20. France can vary considerably from €35 upwards.
