We are experienced caravanners and have journeyed abroad for the past 25-odd years visiting most European countries (except Scandinavia). A notable exception is Portugal so we are looking to put that right this year. Most posts I have read concern winter visits but this will probably be September or possibly earlier but definitely not August.
Will take the Bilbao/Santander ferry one way at least. Looks like £988 is about the cheapest return, booked through the Caravan Club. Anybody know of cheaper options on those routes?
The CC Magazine carried an article in January suggesting giving the Algarve a wide berth which seems like good advice. Anybody have any observations that may be of help?
Thanks, Paul

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Agree with AK1972,go as far west as possible and the coastline is beautiful,we stayed at Camping Turiscampo near Lagos a very nice site that takes Camping Cheques from 1st September till end of the year.Lots of places on the coast and inland to visit.Lagos has plenty of Supermarkets only a couple of miles away.We would like to return but at the moment Bilbao/Santander Ferries to much for our pocket.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
