We have a ferry from Dover 18.35 on a Friday night, thinking of driving for an hour or so before stopping for the night, for the 2nd night we were thinking of Macon.
Has anybody stayed at the municipal at Macon?
From there, we hope it will be an easy drive to Forcalquier in Provance.

Ps this does depend on the weather forecast for Provance.

We've stayed there twice, on the way south, and on the way north again. It's fine for an overnight stop - and easily accessed from the autoroute. It was well signposted, too. We had a good pitch each time, but I remember not all pitches were quite so easy to access as ours were. I can't remember anything about the sanitary blocks, suggesting they were OK - if they'd been really bad or really good I would have remembered!
It does get very busy, so try to get there as early as you can. It's a popular half-way stopover, especially on a weekend.
We had to leave my son's friend's trainers there - they were just unbearably smelly in the car, so he did the rest of the journey without any shoes!
We used Macon last year as our 2nd stop over on our way to the Alpes last year & found it just the job. Facilities were fine, the kids made use of the play areas - although the pool looked a little nippy - & the camp was big enough to have a nice walk around in the evening. It was very convenient for the huge supermarket (Auchan) about a mile further into town where we used the Flunch & filled up with fuel.
Our first overnight stop of that trip was the municipal at Cambrai, which we also enjoyed.
Back in the day 70's & 80's, we always used to us the Municipal at Macon, on our way to the Cote d Azur, we would arrive around 3pm and be off again 9am the next morning.
I can remember plenty of units arrriving and leaving, almost transit like, and I guess it's still much the same in peak, and only have pleasant memories of the campsite itself, ideal for a break in the long journey South.
Of course we are campers, so would only put up the small tent for the overnights.
Then the Budget hotels came along, so we now do an overnight just South of Dunkerque, and a second at Montelimar on our journey South to the Sun!

We used this site on our way back from Italy a couple of years ago. We liked it for a stop over and would use it again. The facilities were clean, pitches are a reasonable size and there is a big supermarket within walking distance (great for us as we are in a campervan). We actually ended up staying two nights as we we knackered and needed a rest - did some food shopping, went swimming in the pool, and got some laundry done. We would definitely use this site again if we were in the area. It does fill up quickly after about 5pm though.
macon site is fine empties then refills- a bit like a daily tide supermarket is close by and big enough for all you need there is nice park just down the road and alongside the river well worth a walk round/along just turn left out of the site along the main road for about 400 yards or so cross the road and yiu are there I go there for a run after arrival to wind down after the drive
