Hi,Hoping to go to France in our tent next year to either Loire valley or the Vendee. It will be the first time camping abroad, the trouble is most of the sites seem to only take 6 people max on a pitch. There are 7 of us,me,my husband and our five children, our tent isn't massive,It's a 7 person tent average size. Can anyone recommend a site please?

Have you tried contacting any of the sites that you've been looking at and explaining that you've got 5 children?

I think sometimes the six person limit is not about the size of the pitch, but is more about 'parties' of singles, or 'groups' rather than families.  We've certainly had more than 6 on one pitch.  One year we took own two sons, a friend each, and then two more joined us later!

As Kate W says, email the sites you like and check directly, explaining the ages of your children.

Slightly further south, Les Peupliers at Couhe (see the other thread). They're a family-owned site, speak English and I'm absolutely sure they'd stretch a point for a family with 5 kids. In my experience it's the faceless chains that have rules no one has the authority to break.

Where we're going, Domaine des Forges, in the Vendee, has large pitches.

We had 6 on a pitch at La Garangeoire in the Vendee last year - one caravan plus awning, one rather large tent, and one car parked on it, with room still to move!

Most pitches in France seem to be of a decent size - have you tried the C&CC? They seem to have good size pitches at many sites.

Thank you all,I hadn't thought to email the sites directly to ask them. Also I will check out some of the sites that you have recommended. It's such a pain when you have a large family for instance there is a lovely site on the beach with an outdoor pool beautiful when the weather is good,it's only 10 miles from where we live and perfect for a weekend but we can't stay there as they are 6 persons and won't make an exception for my extra child.

The biggest pitches we've ever seen/been on were at this site:
http://www.kasteel-camping.com/en/index.php
We went there twice.
The site we had took camper with awning, extra tent, car, full badmington sized court ... and still had room to spare.
Astonishing!

Kelper's chateau looks good. I've put pictures of two of our big pitch sites on my gallery images, but they aren't where the questioner wanted to go

True!!
The Municipal at Arcais, in the Venise Verte area (great for biking and boating, and much undiscovered area ... Conlon is lovely ... has very big pitches, and is very cheap with very modern facilities.

Not been yet but Ferme de Prunay advertises pitches all between 200 and 400 meters square. Will let you all know what they're like when we get back from our June trip!

I think the title of the post is misleading many people - what the original poster wants is a site which will accept seven people on one pitch, as they have five children.  Most French sites will take a large tent on at least some of their pitches, but anyone know a site which will definitely take a larger family?

We have a large 8 man tent (7m20cm x3m60cm) plus trailer, table, chairs, rotary washing line, bikes and swingball and we stayed at Le Pin Parasol last year on pitch number 107 which was fine for the 4 of us. There wasn't loads of extra room on the pitch but enough space for the kids to play. I would recommend the site for all ages - great facilities and pool, playgrounds, basketball court, table tennis, small games room etc.

I hope I haven't got it wrong but I think the campsite we stayed in last year take up to 7 people. It is called Domaine Des Forges in the Vendee. It you look at their tariffs I think it says it takes up to 7 on each pitch at the bottom of the page.
