Hi
We are looking for recommendations of a camp site near Florence,Italy. Ideally within walking distance of Bus or Train to the city.
We have the ACSI card but the sites in it do not seem
that close.
We will be in the area around 10th June for 4 days.
This is part of our 5 week Italian trip.
Any suggestions please.

Camping Panoramico Fiesole is the nearest and has a bus into the city but Google will tell you of others a little further out (and maybe a little better too) like Village Il Poggetto, and I think there is transport from there
Many years ago we stayed here Camping Michelangelo which is within easy walking distance of Florence. However I note from the Caravan Club European Guide that there are a few issues like toilet facilities needing updating and noise from a nearby disco. We had that 20 years ago!!! It is also quite expensive costing twice as much per night as a site in the ACSI book during low season. Having said that it has a lovely situation over looking the Duomo and the river Arno is superb. It will be a very busy campsite with lots of backpackers. I am sure there are better and more peaceful campsites around Florence but you would then have to rely on your car or public transport, which is pretty good in Italy.
Which is on the Outskirts of Florence. This Site accepted ACSI card, and has a Bus stop 5 Mins outside of the campsite.
Pitches were not marked out as such, but there was plenty of space.
The site takes, Caravans, Tents and Motor Homes. Also available were Static Chalets.
It Had a Swimming pool, good Sized Shop and Bar/Restaurant We had a few beers in the bar, but did not use the other facilities. There was WIFI, but you had to pay for it, if I recall correctly.
There was a very good bakery at the Bus Stop, and you could get Free WIFI whilst waiting for the bus, Which the Wife used to get her Facebook Fix

I have been looking at CAMPING INTERNAZIONALE FIRENZE
It is no longer on ACSI list of camp sites more the pity as it is quiet close to Florence.
I think the problem is it can only charge 16 euros.
They do take a number of other cards but charge between 23 – 26 euros for them.
Does anyone know anything of these or any other discount cards apart from ACSI and euro cheques.

We have the Best Deal CampingWijzer, but have never used it as we have always took advantage of ASCI, but as Best Deal is Free, there is no reason why you shouldn't get one, we have it on a "Just in case we need it" basis.
Camping Internazionale Firenze, is quite close, and at rush hour it is probably quicker to walk, than get the bus in.
When we were there the Bus Timetables and routes changed and there was a lot of confusion with the buses, which were late or Not turning up at all. We spoke to a Local Girl who worked into the City said, she got an Inter-City Bus into the outskirts and Walked in the rest of the way as it was Quicker than the Suburban Buses.
We Looked at Camping MichaelAngelo, and a) it was More Expensive, b) Full, c) Required booking in advance. Camping International we simply just turned up.
Whilst we were provisionally going to Spain and Portugal, The Wife is Hinting in going back to Florence again, but this may change things. We Might just head to Austria instead

I stayed at camping Michaelangelo in 2009 and didn't hear any disco noise but did hear Berlusconi's election rally from the Place Michaelangelo.
Otherwise agree with everything David posted, a lot of backpackers and toilet/showers were quite busy, but easy access into the city either walking or by bus. I think we visited in May.

Hi just back from a bit of a trip. We stayed at Camping Internazionale for a couple of nights. Very handy for Firnze and the buses looked ok BUT we just drove in and parked at the Fortezza near the railway station, about 15minutes drive and parking was about €1 per hour, longer stays get cheaper.
To eat in the centre - try 'i Mangiarino' on via dello Studio - very Italian and great food - not expensive.
The site doesn't have marked pitches as such and is very close to the autostrada with some noise, decent shop not too expensive. Lots of static type lodges which were quite busy with bus tours when we were there. Showers etc very very good and very clean.

How did you get this I have looked on their web site it is in german but I could just manage that will they post a card to the UK?
We have recently had 6 nights at Belsito, above Montecatini Terme. It's worth the windy road - quiet, lovely views and easy to get into the countryside. Spotlessly clean facilities, or you can have a private loo/shower for 3 euros extra each night. ACSI card taken. Dutch owned and plenty of Dutch and Germans there. Easy for Lucca and Pisa and 45 minute train ride to Florence (Santa Maria Novella). Fare was 9.20E each, return. Parking in town, some free, some metered. Car Park 3 best, but need to be there quite early for space. Some campers took hourly bus down to town, but we preferred to have car available for return journey to site, at a time we chose. Enjoy your hol. and ask more if you want.

We have stopped at the ACSI Camping card Campsite at Camponle-Bucchini. From t6here you can drive to the nearest railway station for train to Florence we did it some years ago and it is an excellent site. If you needany more info let me know.

We are off to Italy this May and plan to visit Firenze but also, if possible, get down to Rome by train so I'm interested in whether you succeeded in finding a site near a station?
We stayed at Campeggio Villaggio San Giusto S.r.l. For 4 nights north of Florence. drove to train station on the one day we went into florence.
we then spent 3 nights Camping MichaelAngelo which as everyone says is expensive and you cannot use acsi
It can have noisy. site full of younge visiting Florence enjoying themselves.
Main advantage of the site is you can walk do to the center of Florence in about 10 minutes takes longer back it is up hill.
The site is next door to Piazzale Michelangelo so there is alot of coaches but you get fabulous sunsets alonge the Amo and a view to die for.

In Rome we used Campsite Tiber.ACSI site, this had a shuttle bus to the train station 30 minutes into Rome. $ nights there wonderful.
