On a previous trip to Spain we stayed at a really awful campsite ready to catch our ferry the next morning.

On our last trip (March 2012) we found one that was not too far away and open all year round. The site was not fantastic but facilities, were OK and staff were friendly. Some access was tight going through trees - beware!

It is a Camping Cheques site :- Santillana del Mar - page 598 of 2012 directory.

For the same reason ... one year, we used a hotel in Santander for our last night ... must say, provided a very nice rest for that last day, plus a good stroll round some of the town and a good meal in a restaurant.

santillana del mar really only any good for one night .. stayed twice and both times wish i hadnt but if you must take your own water...........

OK! Thanks for that. I tried to book Cabo Mayor but they don;t take advance booking for July. I am a bit worried we wont find a stopover as we arrive on 25th July a Spanish Bank Hol. Does anyone know what the availability is like that time of year if we dont book in advance??

Hi again thanks for that - we are heading East towards Bilbao and then Biarritz, so really want a couple of stopovers, one really near to Santander as I have 2 kids with me and we arrive in the evening.

The bad campsite we had was Somo Parque - Had to stay on roads as site was so muddy. Boilers didn't work in ladies showers. No reduction in price no reciept!

Would not stay at this site again.
