Hi, We were thinking of going to France next August, from Poole to Cherbourg, as we store near Poole. I haven,t towed in France before so don,t want to travel too far, maybe the Normandy area or Brittany. I,ve not got a clue about distances involved. So can anyone give any advise on the best areas to go, sites to stay at, what the roads are like etc. Also is it better to do a trip independently or through someone like the Caravan Club.

Any advise gratefully received ( Even if its don,t go! )

The area around Cherbourg is a tourist area & quite nice, there are plenty of campsites within an hours drive including some much nearer than that so you have a good choice not far from port. The roads in the area are ok & the campsites signposted so you won't get lost.

We go Portsmouth to Cherbourg and we stay at Anse Du Brick. It is fab and only 10 minutes drive from Cherbourg. 5 mins walk down to the beach and there is a bar, shop & restaurant on site. Sea views too if you book early. A great place to start your French touring.
