Bring a French adaptor for your EHU. In France you will find both European EHU connection (same blue one as in Britain) but also purely french ones, sometimes both at the same sites (half of the pitches one type, other half the other type.
Apparently the adapter sold in britain provide for both French and German connection (middel plus side earth connection)
For the remainder, read the many threads in france in this section first: about yes/no reservation, municipal campsites, toll roads/N-roads, Milau bridge etc.
Where in france would you like to go. Many English go the the Vendee, but there are other beautiful regions too, like Auvergne/Perigord, Dordogne, Pyrennees, Vercors, Tarn area, Cevennes, Alps and PreAlps, Alsca Lorraine, Brittany. Take one or two areas and you wil get more specifc information on theat area, routing and campsites.
Caravanning is not problem at all, other than taking account of hill climbs like anywhere.
We have been to France for last 3 years for 3 weeks in August in our Motorhome. We never book and always find a pitch, even on a beach side camp near st tropez!! It is so much easier than over here, there are so many campsites and in the main campers are positively welcomed. I relax the minute I get off the ferry, I know the children will be smiled at instead of tutted at when they laugh or play, the food and way of life is relaxing and driving and camping couldn't be easier. Only another 6 months to go............ PS: we may have been lucky in the south of France because it is very busy, so might be a good idea to book ahead if your thinking of going there.
Can't go this year - my best friend is getting married way down in Newquay so we're making a holiday of it (Josh will be 20 months and will love the beaches, etc). Next year he will appreciate the crossing more (hopefully) and we'll have the time...
Don't forget to take a Michelin Campsite Guide................... Until you really get used to driving on the right its better not to cross the road to get fuel, chances are you will drive off on the wrong side of the road.
if you cross at daft o' clock like we're doing in August, you can pay as little as £121 for the car, caravan and as many passengers as you can carry. That's with P&O on the Dover-Calais run. It's cheaper still if you book through the caravan Club, they knock another tenner off!

Beach and quiet is more rare as a combination, unless you camp on a site further from the beach. Of course there are calm beaches further away from cities.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
