we did the med around Torrielles plage ( spelling?) in 2008 due to the weather looking like this summer! was really disappointed, very little character- soul-less feel. may be we didnt explore enough-( had a 24hr dash home as OH grandfather died 7 days into 3 week hols!) .. like i said on another post the other day- if you are going towards the middl/end August & can leave booking til last minute or better still have a favourite's list for each area you fancy just get over there and see where the road takes you- as you can tell by the many and varied posts on here there really is something to recommend most parts of france!
My big tip would be RESEARCH!!! before you go
