Hi Mary,
Welcome.
I take it by what you have said you have a motor home?
One thing you need to consider when looking for a site is the size of your motorhome. Sites near to the coast tend to have smaller pitches than ones further inland. Also if it is very long you may have trouble getting around the site and turned onto a pitch.
However there is a weath of experience on this website, so I'm sure someone will be able to help you.
I'll give you the extremes, in the very north and the very south - other people will fill in the gaps !
At arrival ports... Camping Fort Lapin at Bleriot Plage (2 miles from Calais)
Camping Trologot at St Pol de Leon (2 miles from Roscoff)
And right down at the very bottom of France there are hundreds of self contained, self sufficient motorhomes camping free by the beach at Plage de Piemanson in the Camargue as that one is Camping Sauvage, without any facilities, not even a water tap.
thank you both for your reply and will heed your advice when looking.free sounds good but not for my first trip as i travel on my own so will need the security feel of a main campsite

Hi there, you don't say if you want to be in tne North or South of France, and how far you want to travel from the port to your to your campsite,or which ferry route you are using. We are tent users, and tend to use Dover Dunkirk,as it tends to be the cheapest route across for us.We stay on a large campsite called Camping Club Perroquet on the edge of a small town called Bray Dunes which is around 3/4 qtrs of an hour from the ferry port when we are returning back to the U.K,this site is right on the beach, although the grassy pitches(which we use) are a mile from the sea but in the lee of the dunes. This area is were the Dunkirk evacuation of WWII took place.
