Hello there,
This is my first post so I hope it's in the right area of the forum.
I've camped in the UK a couple of times on my own with the kids (2 & 7yrs) and now I've persuaded my non-camping other half to drive to the South of France to pitch our tent for a couple of weeks with a B&B or Hotel stop on the way there and back.
We've spent hours looking at different campsites using the CampingFrance.Com website and this one and can't seem to find a campsite that has a nice pool for the little ones that is also relatively quiet at night. Just when we think we've found a good pool, we read a review that says it's noisy well after 1am.
Does anyone have experience of a campsite on South Coast with a nice toddler pool that quietens down around 11pm or are we asking for too much? We appreciate August is a busy time and that the French probably prefer to stay up late. In which case we may just have to take earplugs!

Welcome to the forum.. If you mean on the Mediterranean coast, and if you mean for this summer high season, then I don't think you will find what you want.
If you are willing to go inland then you will. Look for smaller sites, ones without the word "entertainment" in their desciption, and ones without tour operators, and without bars or discos. They do exist.
Funnily enough I have never found the French to be people that stay up late, usually goes quiet between 10.00 and 11.00pm. The problem is that a fair proportion of campers won't be French!!!
Try Camping Neptune at Agde - smallish site, toddler pool, good pitches, plenty of things to do in and around the site, a beach nearby, and after 17th August accepts Camping Cheques meaning pitch, two adults, car and tent, awning and electricity will be £13.95 per night. Any entertainment will be reasonably low key, and you can be far enough away from the bar/restaurant area. It may be necessary, if you're going at that time, to check that they have a pitch before you turn up. See the Camping Cheques website for details (though at the moment it doesn't appear to be working properly) - www.campingcheque.co.uk.
One problem in busy areas is not that the site you're on may be quiet, but that the ones next door may be noisy! Neptune isn't really near enough any other sites for this to be a problem.
I wouldn't venture to the Cote d'Azur end of the Mediterranean until at least mid-September when the traffic and busy sites will both improve.

Hi, thanks Berriow, I think we've got more searching ahead.
Thanks Val A, I just checked Neptune and they don't have availability until 22nd onwards which unfortunately we can't do, we can only do around 10th-24th, but really appreciate the tip/advice. We are going to start looking inland a bit more and are thinking that we'll book slightly out of season next year.
If you're happy with inland and don't want mega facilities, have a look at Camping Le Grenouille in Goudargues. I've not been but gets great reviews - mainly French and is in a lovely part of France. It's where I would be going if I didn't have lively 3 and 6 year olds who want bouncy castles and slides. We're going to L'hirondelle in Drome as a compromise.
This is what I am after for next year but I'm really struggling to find one. Went to La Garangeoire this year and it was brilliant for my toddler but now I am wanting to go further south.

zozo, try Domaine de Massereau. Brilliant site and a Castels site like La Garangeoire.
I would also recommend the site to the original poster but doubt they have any spare pitches this late in the day. We are having to change our plans and have searched the med sites for dates similar to yours and havent had any luck so far.
PS. If you find anywhere let me know.

I would recommend Camping de Vaudois link
It is a very quite, safe site whose major claim is "there is no evening entertainment". It is about 4 miles inland from Frejus and St Aygulf
Stuart. Bravo, that really is one of your specials. I've just been reading the Caravan Club's own forum and someone there is saying what really good value £20 a night is at their site at Henley - where you are packed in, situated beside a noisy main road, has not even bread delivery of course, no communal area - and your site in France is £9.50 and has a swimming pool, and sunshine.
Thanks for the replies, some really good sites given.
I found quite a good site called Le Ruou which is an hour from the coast, has a couple of slides, and while it does have entertainment, it's quite a small site, only 134 plots, and very reasonably priced! Quite a long drive from Calais though, 11hours+.
However, after all my efforts to find a quieter site, me and the other half just couldn't agree (he wanted water park and beach) and so we ended up booking Le Plein Air des Chenes. It gets very mixed reviews from the French and mainly negatives about unfriendly staff so we'll just have to avoid people and hope we don't have any issues with the plot. Wish us luck!
