For anyone still wanting an ACSi card for their forthcoming holiday, there are two books available on ebay for £7.97 including postage.

There are some Camping Cheques too, but for auction (I keep looking for spares!) but I can buy them from the French website for less than £12.00 on our Gold Card.  Some have been selling recently on ebay for over £13.00 each.  If you don't mind paying the (almost) normal price then they could still be a bargain if you just want a few for this year as you would still save the 'Admin fee' for paper cheques through Alan Rogers.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Yes, - and you can even do it from France!  http://www.campingcheque.fr/  is what you need.  At the moment the exchange rate means a 15 euro Camping Cheque costs around £11.70!  We have a card which gives us purchases in other currencies fee free, but just check out what your card charges might be.

With the 'electronic' cards you can top up wherever you are!

I'm trying to buy a few extra so my youngest son (who has been very ill) can have a holiday at a reasonable cost.   He can't work at the moment, and really could do with a break.  He and his girlfriend may come with us at the end of August - but stay separately in their own tent but that means we need double the number of Camping Cheques!

Val I looked at these two on ebay with a view to bidding. I wrote a message 3 days ago asking the seller to confirm the card had not been used as the item is listed as used. No reply. So do not think I will bid. Shame as I really want to get one for September. Vicarious books seem to still have them in stock.

I think Savanne has one which she wasn't going to be able to use.  Perhaps worth a FAO Savanne.............. topic!

Thanks for that Val, we are off on 31st August and will probably drive to the sun nothing booked apart from the ferry. Have you bought the breathalizer thingies yet ? if there is no fines until november than maybe we will not bother and see if the rule comes in force.

The last Cheques I purchased I got from the French site because of the better value as Val points out. Its a very simple process and for anyone unsure how to do it all in French just print off the page from the UK site as its the same as the page in French apart from the language!!!

I you use Google Chrome it translates the site into English for you so there is no problem.

At todays rate each cheque is equal to £11.65

I know, I know, just when you thought things were going well. Please someone tell me what an ASCi is. Everybody keeps talking about them and how to get them but what do you do with them and are they essential?

An ACSI Card comes with a campsite guide book.  All the sites in the book accept the ACSI Card and offer a rate of 10, 12, 14 or 16 euros (depending on the site) between certain dates, set by each site.  This covers the pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning, and electricity.  Any more children or adults you would pay a supplement for - and this would be the normal amount which the site charages for extra people.

You present the card on arrival at the site, and then get the discounted rate.  There are over 800 sites in France which accept the ACSI card and I think more than 2000 throughout Europe.

On some sites there are special offers, such as seven nights for the price of 6, or 14 nights for 12, and even (on one site in Spain) 30 nights for 20!

See here:  www.campingcard.co.uk for more details.
