We are planning our next trip abroad, unfortunately, not until next whitsun but we like to get booked early. Can anyone suggest a nice spacious campsite in the south of france that has good beach access? Also a convenient stopover site on the way down from Calais? We will be camping in either our tent or a folding camper.

Many thanks in advance. Keith.

Hi Keith, we go to the south of france around spring bank time and we never book there isnt any need there are always pitches on most sites. As for us we normally go dunkirk to salbris for the over night then down to the med around agde area, lots of beach sites around there we also we use acsi card for the low season discounts.

Similarly, we travel at the same time, never book (because we might want to move on if we don't like the site, the area, or the weather) and have never had a problem finding a pitch.  In fact on one site, over the Spring Bank Holiday, we were one of only ten occupied pitches on the site!

You really don't need to book in advance in France, in anything except the long summer holidays and only then on beachside sites or larger sites inland.  On smaller sites you can always find a pitch somewhere,  even if you have to resort to Plan B.

Keith - take a look at the ACSI Card and Camping Cheques websites, for details of lots of sites which offer discounts in 'low' season - which for some sites is right up until mid-July and then again from late August

www.campingcard.co.uk and www.campingcheque.co.uk

We use a mixture of both!
