We are planning our 2013 summer holiday and could do with a bit of help. We want to go to France and aren't particular whereabouts. We went to La Croix du Vieux Pont this summer and loved the site but found that there wasn't a great deal to do in the evenings outside of the complex.
Next year we would like to try a site that is within walking distance of a town/resort for a change of scenery some nights. We don't want full on tourist razzmatazz but somewhere we can have a walk and find a choice of restaurants and maybe a bar or two.
Any suggestions guys?

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually, my title is a little misleading (I can't change it unfortunately).
Although I suspect that I have more chance of getting somewhere to fit the bill in Vendee, I am open to any other suggestions. Don't really want to travel to the Med coast but anywhere else in France is an option.
Carnac Les Menhirs might be a good option. On the south Brittany coast and walking distance into Carnac which has restaurant/bars etc.
Or else, you could try one of the sites in Benodet (south west Brittany) either Du Letty, or Pointe St. Gilles, both within walking distance of the town (along a lovely coastal path).
Camping Bel in La Tranche sur Mer of Oceano D'Or as suggested above are good options for the Vendee - I would steer clear of St. Jean de Monts but that's just me.

Aha, beat me to it, i too was going to say Carnac Les Menhirs, great site and so nice to be able to walk out to some nice ice cream parlours, creperies and resteraunts. One of our best holidays.
L'Oceano d'or gets my vote too - we were there in August for 2 weeks and had a wonderful time, easy walk into town or very short drive/bike ride to port. When we were there, the port had lots of events on - great firework display on 15th August (French holiday), night market one night, live music on other nights. If your children like kids clubs (mine don't), the kids have mini discos regularly throughout the week and one night had a kids pizza party which our Dutch neighbour's children went to and they really enjoyed it. We found La Tranche and Les Sables d'Olonne just a bit too busy for us - the one little amusement arcade at the port was just right for us. I agree with Matt that it seems very reasonably priced as well given the location and the facilities. We've booked again for next year
