I have stayed at Camping du Pylone a few times. A short walk from the site is Marineland - our son loved the killer whales.
Having done it once, I wouldn't recommend driving along the coast to Monaco in August - the traffic is horrendous. There is a regular, reasonably priced, coastal train service that runs along the Cote D'Azur, which was a much better option for getting to Monaco, Nice, Cannes and Ventimiglia in Italy(which used to be the largest open-air market in Europe).
------------- Cheers
John

i'll have a look at the site now-thanks for the link, i know it will be very busy driving to monaco- but one of the resons we want to camp on south coast is so i can drive around the gp track
Thanks Francophile but no pool, think I'll stick to the one I've found on op
Anyone know anything about getting a discount on the hull to zeebrugge ferry?? Vouchers. Etc
Thanks
You may get a discount on some crossings from Hull for Sunday sailings, I think, where the caravan goes free, but whether this includes Zeebrugge I'm not sure - but worth checking dates/times on the website to find out.

Camping du Pylone does have a pool, it's shown on the website, and I vaguely remember there being one when we stayed there some time ago.
We usually stay at Camping de la Brague which is next door and has no pool. We have been to Monte Carlo on the train, the station is across the road from the campsite. When we went it was the week after the GP, some of the stands were still up, but the road markings had been removed for the GP and reinstated. We did walk round part of the course, but I couldn't be sure you could have driven round it, the course must include one way streets and so on. I would check this very carefully before you try to drive it!

It certainly does have a pool - either that or we got very wet in a big, blue puddle
This isn't going to be much use, I'm afraid, but perhaps different slants on similar problems! We're going to Provence, we hope (see http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=7&TopicID=285021&PagePosition=4 ) sending the car by train and following it in comfort. We're going to Avignon (quicker, cheaper, daily trains). Our cost compares this method with travelling by train and hiring a car and seems to be more economical. Another thing - it might be cheaper, certainly quicker, to get a TGF for yourself rather than the sleeper. We may get a cheap hotel in Avignon, maybe Paris - more co90mfortable than the sleeper!
Will be interesting to hear how we all get on ....

Thanks for that - your name was mentioned before but couldn't find the thread. I'll check through the train times again. Off the top of my head the train down from Paris was only about 3 1/2hours so a hotel may work

As long as you don't blame me if it goes pear-shaped! One important thing, apparently, is that the car-train sells out very early so pick your dates and make bookings as soon as possible.
I think the reference Val made was to cheap local tickets, a couiple of years back. I don't know how that stands now but in Roussillon this year local trains and buses cost 1 euro per journey so were a very economical way of getting about: we did a three week holiday and had a car for only one week (when we were up in the hills away from civilisation!).
Good luck, keep us informed.

Hi edjillgeorge,
our ferry from Hull is £366.00 which includes 7 camping cheques valued £97.65 so it makes the ferry £268.
Sorry I am late with my reply.
artic
Thanks for the reply !
We were quoted about £450 by p&o to go in august !!! And that was with just a car
So we will be joinig the club
I see your in sunny east yorks too. ;-)
Ps what are camping cheques??
Camping Cheques (see www.campingcheque.co.uk) are basically 'vouchers' (either paper or on an electronic card) which you can use to get a discounted price on any of the sites in their brochure, on dates when they are accepted. They are intended for low season use, but low season in France, and most of the rest of Europe, is very different to here, and actually on some sites includes the whole season. They cost £13.95 per night, and this pays for a pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning and electricity.
If bought as part of a 'package' (ie as Artic has done) then they can bring down the cost by more than the additional cost of the Camping Cheques. You can buy them through Camping Cheques themselves, or from the Caravan Club. If you can't use them during your dates, then they have a value on forums such as this one, and plenty of people will make you an offer for them. (Including me!)
Before joining I would get a quote from the Caravan Club, to check that it is worth your while.
got a quote from the two clubs it came out at about 30 cheaper, i didn't mention camping cheques do both clubs offer them ? It seems after speaking to them both that the best discounts are for those who have a caravan to pull.... not for us car only lot!!
