Hi,

Have been reading various posts on sites in Dordogne but they are for peek season. I have been looking in ACSI and Camping Cheques book, but getting mind boggled. We are looking to go in May and June for a few weeks, can anyone recommend any of the sites in either of the books. Haven't really got a preference which area of Dordogne as not familiar to this part of France. Would like to be able to walk to small town or village shops, not bothered about entertainment or swimming pool.

Any suggestions or advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Marilyn

Have a look at this site at Beaulieu sur Dordogne, it is on an island right beside a small walled town.
Camping les iles

It is ACSI 1588 and costs €12 per night

Marilyn. Honestly in May/June I'd just go and pitch upat some site or other, and if I didn't like it I'd spend half a day scouting round for some place else. There's so much choice down there. Have a good time.

We stayed at Les Deux Vallees in Vezac, my review is on here. It is 14 euro until 6th July with ACSI.

We stay here
also at Vezac but with direct river access. Price low season is just a bit over ACSI price. Walk along riverside path to Castelnaud for bakery, small shop and restaurants (le Tournepique is excellent value) or walk to Beynac for similar shops and restaurants.

We love Le Perpetuum, its adjacent to the River and a short walk from the riverside bars and Restaurants at Vitrac, also a 10 min drive up to Domme which is fabulous, 15 min drive to sarlat, this site is peaceful but has everything you want, we stayed there is Sept on our Honeymoon and would definately go again.
Not too far away is the well publicised Soleil Plage, another very good site with more going on, this is a great area and not far from Beynac, La Roche Gageac (spelled wrong) a must when you are there is a canoe trip down river to appreciate the beautiful countryside and Chateaux/castles, a lovely area to go, you will love it. J x

We stayed in Montignac, at Le Moulin du Bleufond - walking distance from pretty town on the Vezere, and just down the hill from Lascaux II.

We've stayed here, lovely site and a great little town with market days during the week. Its a 5 min walk into town in the morning for croissants etc. Stay at the end nearest the reception as the weir can be noisy especially if you're in a tent.

Enjoy

Alex

Thanks to you all so much, I have had a look and they all look nice and just what I am looking for. Just need to decide which area to go to, they all sound idyllic.
It has certainly made it easier for me as there are so many, but I prefer recommendations, so thank you again.

Marilyn
