Hi the 'wild' beach between Empuria Brava and Santa Margarida area of Roses allows dogs...it is well kept and beautiful long and sandy although the area for dogs gets shorter during main season but is still huge...as you drive in near to an excellent campsite, Rubina Resort, the first few signs say 'no dogs' but as you drive along the sandy track/carpark the signs change to allow dogs.
Empuria Brava is the best resort in Spain I have ever been to, many canals and lots of money and famous people but its not got inflated prices.

The beaches around St Pere Pescador are mainly dog friendly - avoid the most populated areas (usually next to the camp site or car park) and you will find plenty of other dog owners (the signs may say "no dogs") As one in 4 German campers seem to own dogs the camp site owners took the local council to task for over rigourous enforcement of the rules last year and things were fine in August and September. Remember to clean up afterwards though!

Thanks for that...is it the council who enforce the no dogs or the police...I think I would feel less edgy sat on a Beach where it is signed 'dogs allowed' in Catalan of course..

Sorry - don't think you will get any sign on Spanish beaches saying "dogs allowed" Spanish people take the view that in high season you can take dogs on most beaches early i.e. before 11a.m.ish and in the evening and out of season at any time although before 10 and after 4 is still dog walking time.

At St Pere the dogs on beaches is enforced by the municipal police - but generally they are more interested in kite surfers using the beach in the wrong place than dogs - We have been going to St Pere in high season since dog passports were introduced and never had a problem

There are 'dogs allowed' signs on Rubina beach..as you drive in to the sandy parking area the signs are for now dogs but they then change to a dogs allowed signs and an arrow showing which direction the signs are referring to..

Personally I get really P****d off with Germans (mainly) taking their massive dogs on the beach where loads of small kids are playing. I am not suggesting that the dogs are fierce, however, some are very big while others are very bouncy and some children do not like dogs. The beach is clearly marked no dogs - I fully support enforcement

Hi
Am I right in thinking that on the Aquarius campsite the beach only has certain areas where dogs can go?

In theory the beach opposite Aquarius is no dogs. There has always been an unwritten rule the dog owners take their animals a little further up the beach. However, last year we complained repeatedly to the beach guards about a couple of families who always took their dogs onto the family beach. Enforcement seems to be a little lax last year, previously it was much better. However it could be that certain people feel that they are above rules that apply to everyone else

Hi

I agree with Mattsurf that there are always people who break the unwritten rules but by en large Aquarius beach is good for dogs - there is an excellent dog walk between the campsite and the beach bar with poo bags at the entrance to the site. A dog shower is provided so you do get something for your money in addition to designated dog pitches. Unfortunately rules are always broken by some - Kite surfers for example who are banned in season (15th June - 15th Sept) but there are always people who won't go to the designated area at the river entrance and insist on going out where there are swimmers and children - much more dangerous than dogs!!!

As a keen windsurfer - I have to agree with tobyleeds. Kitesurfing is not permitted on this beach in summer and the beach patrol are very strict enforcing this - they had people on the beach yelling at any kitesurfers and a small patrol boat to chase down offending kitesurfers.

Windsurfing and sailing is permitted in a reserved area - again the beach patrol is very strict enforcing the rules - any windsurfer who encroaches gets a serious telling off

I have not time for anyone who breaks these rules - this is a family beach and families should not have to worry about fast moving Windsurfers / Kitesurfers or Dogs on the beach

I should point out that the beach area opposite the Bar is the area where dog owners usually go. The area towards the campsite reception is generally dog free

Yes the area in front of the beach bar is where we go - if you go further towards Dunas you can have a dog and be a naturist as this part of the beach is recognised as such in Catalonia.
