We are driving from Calais- Dordogne but I am struggling to find somewhere we can stop for just one night in a static or pre-erected tent (ours is a bit big to put up for a single night). We don't need a big place with lots of facilities, but somewhere clean that we can get a bite to eat and lay our heads down for the night! (2 adults and two children aged 8 and 4) Thought about booking an hotel, but we would like to be next to the car and the camping equipment in the trailer so that we can keep an eye on it.
Can anyone suggest where we could stop for the night, perhaps near Orleans or similar?
Thanks in advance.

Try a family room at a B&B hotel http://www.hotel-bb.com/
All have family rooms and all have gated private parking. We've used them in Boulogne, Rouen, Le Mans, Limoges, Beauvais and St Denis in Paris (Private underground code operated parking right next to the stade de France) and all have been of a good standard with no worries about the car.
All have decent restaurants within walking distance too
We used a B&B Hotel in Orleans when we went to the Dordogne with our camping trailer/bikes/topbox et al. We checked in, then moved the car to a spot outside the room. Never had any trouble.

A couple of popup tents & stop overnight on a campsite would probably be cheaper than a hotel & you would have them for next yr. Also good for last night at main campsite so you can pack your large tent away previous afternoon when its dry.
From last years unfortunate experineces, try and stay North of Paris rather than 'under' Paris. So many campiste had closed and the ones that were open were not great.
My idea, my fault....I thought it would be good to go to Chartres on the way. So we did Abbeville - Rouen (staying in Pont De L'arche), then across to see friend in Limousin before we went to the Dordogne.
the area betwen Chartres and Limousin seems to have been badly hit by the recession.
Others may have had better experiences, but we would never go in that area again.
We did find a gorgeous spot near the Put De Dome though.....Chatel. Beautiful little spa town, the campsite was on the outskirts, amazing views, so we stayed a few days...not 5* but very hospitable, small family run site.
yes, we like to tour and pitch quite a lot, we rarely stay anywhere longer than a few days.
(the exception is Savigny Le Beaune, which we love..and when we win the lottery millions we'll be emigrating to here).
Bon vancances

Favourite site:
Camping Nanzel, Limone, Lake
Garda..perfect for MTB, Kayak, SUP and fell running training.
Favourite areas: Provence, French Alps, Savigny (as a stop over for Southern France: Rhein valley as a stop over for Italy. 78
We used to do an overnight in a hotel, until we bought the pop ups....we now only take the large pop ups and use them as a modular system. (Decathlon -Quechua seconds base X 2).
we used to take a canvas bungalow Hartford XL fab tent but really doesn't suit our needs now.We used to argue a lot when pitching and to be honest it was too big. At least with pop ups, you pitch one for a one night stop or both for a few days.
The tents were costly, but paid for themselves in one trip.
Really love Decathlon tents, just wih they'd get their act together with the accessories :)

We take Decathlon pop-ups for overnights, but they are quite bulky things to take in addition to the main, longer-stay tent, unless you have a trailer and / or lots of space to carry stuff.
Not a bad idea to take them and a Base Seconds instead of a long-stay tent.
Decathlon seemed to have had a price-hike, this year though.
try one of the cheap hotel chains in Orleans - ie Formule 1 - Premier Class - Ibis or similar - if you go one line before you go you can book it with your credit card and no problem just roll up and all done
If you choose almost any one of the Millau sites, you may be so captivated by the paragliders overhead that you don't watch much television!
We have some fantastic photographs taken from a riverside pitch at Les Rivages, with the backdrop of the Millau viaduct, at sunset, with several paragliders coming in to land!
