BTW, I have not camped in France yet, however, it is on the card, just need to get a more reliable car first.
Can't wait to go back to France.

Read what the little Englanders have to say on Caravan Club's own forum - what direction to pitch, inappropriate attire on camp sites, how children are expected to behave, railing about people who arrive at sites before midday, diatribes about cycling, etc... I go abroad to get away from folk like that !
I can't ignore the weather in the UK, thats why I camping in southern France & if the weather ain't what it should be there I carry on down to Spain, I can't think of any other reason for driving for 2 days, tbh.

Me too! We did stay on Caravan Club sites in this country at one time, but liked 'flummoxing' them a little because we had a wrong way round van (or at least considered that way by the Caravan Club). It always disconcerted the wardens when we couldn't pitch the way they wanted.
We love the freedom and flexibility of France, that you don't need to book months, or even years, in advance, that if you don't like a site, your neighbours, or the surroundings, you can just say 'We're leaving this morning' and move on somewhere else. We love the better weather, the less 'car park with grass' feel of campsites, more private and sometimes absolutely huge pitches, the better ratio of showers to pitches, and that they allow campsites in the most beautiful riverside areas of France.
We love caravanning in France so much that we've actually chosen to store our caravan there these days.
And, of course, the better weather, and the lovely food and wine! Even cheap wine tastes good on a warm campsite evening with an owl hooting nearby, a full moon, and that lovely background 'hum' of quiet converstion that you get on French campsites.

Well the last time I ever went family camping in UK was back in 1977, and for some strange unknown reason I never did again. And as they say the rest is history!
The totally relaxing experience. So many sites to choose from. Riverside locations. Aires. In Millau just now and a beer and a glass of wine for euro. 3.70 . Lovely afternoon in the sun. Back to site with river view. BBQ and relaxation. May leave tomorrow, next week or next month. Total freedom.
We love camping abroad, preferably sampling as many different countries as possible - as Kelper says, it's all about cultural change. But that doesn't mean we don't like camping in the UK as well. We've stayed in some excellent sites in this country, and there are still so many places we've never been to. For us it's still possible to have a wonderful holiday despite the weather, so this year we're going to try Ireland.

Different culture, food sightseeing etc. However not sure I agree all the french sites are so much better than in UK. Have seen some shower/toilet blocks that are way below uk standards. Also if travelling in school hols it certainly isn't cheap!! That said am looking forward to our trip this summer.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
