We are heading for the Mosel this summer and would like some advice from seasoned Mosel Campers.
We are looking for a Stellplatz which has good facilities and near the river. If possible we would like a train station to get to larger towns - koblenz and Trier.
Any advise from anyone?

Piesport was the best one we found, so much so we went back there for a couple of nights on the way back. right on the river, plenty of places to eat and drink in the town, supermarket about 5 mins away on the bike. Just all in all a super location

Hi FM - thanks for your reply - Looks lovely. I have spent hours researching and getting very confused with what I have seen and what I have not.
I did find a nice looking one as well but could not find any information regarding trains. Any views on Wintrich?
Don't know it as such, but for me the idea of the wohnplatz is that you can drop on and of easy, which is ideal for touring, stay till you have seen enough and move on. the Mosel is of course ideal for that.

Yes, stayed at Wintrich a couple of years ago. Nice Stellplatz, very much like a campsite, pitch and EHU all in one, was €7 a couple of years ago, includes free WiFi, very nice Stellplatz, WCs and showers available at extra charge but can't remember a train station nearby, we use bikes to get about, and there are plenty of cycle paths, the Mosel radweg for one.
Also stayed at Stellplatze in Zell, Neef and Ernst, first 2 also very nice, Ernst not that good. The railway ran to the back of teh Stellplatz at Neef, and Ernst is very close to Cochem, where I'm sure there is a station. Sorry to be of no more help, our criteria is usually where there are cycle-paths!
Thanks for all your replies. I am going between Neef and Enkirch - I have arthritic knees so I need somewhere that is not too far to walk and as DH won't drive in the large towns then a train or bus is essential.
Whichever we choose I am sure we are going to have a great time. We can even move on if we desire
Is there any issue with putting chairs and table outside your motorhome?

Sorry about the delay, away in France at the moment and only using WiFi when it's free!!
No issue putting table and chairs out, when we were there we were with our friends and we used to put our chairs and tables in between our 2 vans. Other people also put their table and chairs out no problem.
One other thing is that on some Stellplatze, the one in Neef for one, a local wine-producer comes round with lots of bottles of local wine for sale in the back of his van at around 6pm!
Thanks for that Ina - great to hear. I know it is a bit of a wine region but truth be know I don't drink!!!
We have decided on Enkirch - to be honest I like the idea of the little ferry across the river
The little train goes to many places along the river so should be fine. I have checked the prices on the train booking website and they are much cheaper then France.
Very much looking forward to it now. We leave England on the 18th of July and should be in Germany by mid afternoon after we have stopped for breakfast in France and lunch in Belgium.
One of the Stellplatze we looked at was Enkirch, but at the time we went, there was some work going on, on the riverbank, with bulldozers and it was all very noisy, so we decided against that one, and went to Neef instead. Enkirch looked a nice Stellplatz though, and the only reason we didn't stay was that building work. But that was in 2011, so will have long since finished!!
Thanks for that Ina - we are getting quiet excited as it is a long time since we were last in Germany with the RAF - worked it out this weekend that is was 21 years since we got posted back to UK - bring on the schnellimbiss!!

Well here we are on the banks of the Mosel enjoying a cool glass of water in a blistering 29C and humid! Enkirch is a lovely site and not what we expected. Many people come here and stay for weeks on end. Our dutch neighbours have been here for 4 weeks already and show no signs of leaving. We thought it would be more transient than it is.
We are having a great time anyway and are loving getting de acquainted with Germany and its food and fests. Wine fest last weekend with plenty of music and dancing.
We must do this again sometime.
Thanks for your help in choosing a great base for our holiday.
Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself, and the weather being so good is the icing on the cake!
Yes, Enkirch looked nice when we looked at it, as I said, the only reason we didn't stay was the noisy building work at the time.
When we were on the Stellplatze there in 2011, there were also some people who appeared to be there for some time, and others who only stayed for a night. It's great to be able to stay for as long as you want.
Enjoy the rest of your trip and I hope the weather keeps fine for you!
