Afternoon,

Off to the Ardeche on Saturday. Can anyone recommend any Caveaux\Domaines within the Aubenas area please?

Cheers

Harold

Excellent - just done a quick google and there is a cave just the other side of the bridge from the campsite!!

vive le vrac indeed Stuart. I need to watch how much stuff we take with us as it would be a crying shame if there wasn't room for a vrac or two on the way back!!

I personally wouldn't buy Ardeche wine from Ruoms or from the Cave Cooperative in Vallon!  You can smell the sulphur and some of the wine tastes very much of Sulphites.

There are two other 'proper' caves - one just across the bridge at Sampzon - which is much better, and another near Berrias et Casteljau.  I can't remember (nor find at the moment - poor internet connection) the exact details, but they are both much better than the one at Vallon.  We've bought from both in the past.

Hi Val

We are staying at La Bastide. Which side of the bridge is the Cave, Sampzon or Ruoms?

Sampzon side - on the right as you come into Bastide from the bridge.

The other 'Domaine' is Chassagnoles - on a back road, and a lovely place - with his own small wine production area.

There is also a good one on the Plateau as you go across to St Remeze - on the right as you're driving away from Vallon - down a very long drive, but sorry can't remember the name of that one.

All are, or were when we last bought them in 2012, good producers.

Cheers Guys and Girls,

Oli - Le Colombier was a delightful visit. Lovely lady from Belgium talked me through the wines. I am currently sat at home enjoying a bottle of their top end Cuvée No 5. It wasn't cheap (€12) but what a bottle!! You'd have to pay a fair wad to get anything comparable in the UK supermarkets. Thank you.

Val - I'm guessing you were referring to Domaine de Terriers which is on the right hand side before the bridge on the Route des Ales. I bought a number of bottles of Syrah, Chardonnay and Viognier. The Viognier is especially good.

On a side note, for those interested, Le Chalet restaurant on the way to Grospeierre served us 2 excellent meals.

Harold
