I am planning on towing from St Raphael near Cannes to Interlaken in Switzerland in July.
Two routes go through France, and head west, then north, then turn east into Switzerland. The third route is to head along the coast into Italy, then up from Genoa. This appears to be more scenic and across mountains.
Has anyone done one or both options, and which would you recommend?
I am towing a 1440 plated abbey, and driving a Ford Kiga with a towing weight of 2000, so she is capable of a few hills. My wife likes scenery but would be apoplectic in the roads over the mountains are the narrow overhanging type you see on adventure films.

The easiest way is the third one you suggest although the most expensive as it's toll motorway almost all the way. North from Genoa towards Milan and on through the St Gotthard tunnel into Switzerland. Motorways don't have overhanging crags!
At the end of the journey continue via the south side of lake Lucerne to reach Interlaken. What looks like a short cut westwards from Andermatt really will take you over mountain passes.
Curiously, the Italian route is 100miles shorter, and takes longer but so based upon lots of motorway driving. Do I assume there are traffic hotspots which are difficult to navigate?
We've used the toll route from Milan via Genoa to Antibes. It was very scenic. Unlike the route from Chambery through the Frejus tunnel when it rained all day and we saw nothing!
