Not ALL fast tag lanes are height restricted, normally NON restricted lanes are over to the right.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Also not all toll plaza's have a height restricted lane.

Hi blueexpo97.
I would have thought that all the main autoroute carriage ways would have at least 2 height restricted Fast Tag Lanes, some of which you can pass through at upto 30kmph.
Surely this is the whole point of having a 2m height restricted Fast Tag Lane.
I have yet to come across a Toll Gallery that does not have a height restricted Fast Tag Lane on the far Left of the Gallery, leading of from what we know as the Fast lane.

All fast tag lanes are 30kph and no not all plaza's have them.
So you have never seen an artic or coach use a fast tag lane, as previously mentioned. normally extreme right.
Covered in answer one.
They are called toll plaza's, don't know where gallery comes from

Well you have learned something blueexpo97, a Plaza as you call it can also be referred to as a Gallery it makes no difference.
Not all Fast Tag Lanes allow you to pass through at upto 30kmph those that do, have a sign advising that you can pass through at upto 30kmph.
Although all the Fast Tag Lanes that are located at the far Left of the Plaza have a 2m Height Restriction, not all of them allow you to proceed at upto 30kmph, but this is changing as many have now been upgraded to let you pass through at upto 30kmph.
As for there being a TAG only lane for HGV's and Coach's etc, I can't comment because I have never needed to venture over to the Far Right hand side (Slow Lane) of the Plaza, but I do seem to remember seeing the Green TAG logo being displayed over to that side, so I guess that is were over 2m TAG folk go when there are queues at the normal Toll booths that can be used for normal payment, of course all Booths will accept the TAG if your vehicle can fit through!
All clear as mud, but if this helps new folk to the TAG, then all well and good.
Funny, I thought there was two types of Tag lanes, one for, and I quote SANEF here, approaching at walking pace, and one for 30kph which I would call quicker than walking pace. So surely they both can't be fast Tag.
Where.
Oh and plaza is also what SANEF call them

Yep, it would appear that the Fast TAG Lane that you can go through at upto 30kmph, is a fairly new concept, probably only first introduced maybe 2 or 3 years ago.
Prior to that all Fast TAG Lanes required you to come to an almost stop before the Bleep sounded and the barrier popped up.
I guess the Fast TAG Lanes that you can go through at upto 30kmph should have a seperate name like, Very Fast TAG Lane.
Or maybe the Fast TAG Lanes that don't let you go through at upto 30kmph should be now named Slow Fast TAG Lane, but that I guess would be to confusing for the French to understand.
I it was probably the case that when the TAG was first introduced, they just had the two lanes at the far left of the Plaza with a 2m height restriction, so that folk could whizz past with there TAG and not have to que at the regular Toll booth, thus was born the name Fast TAG Lane me thinks.
I noticed more so this year, the 2m restricted Fast TAG Lanes that you can go through at upto 30kmph, do have a much longer run in, but it is still a little disconcerting as you barrel towards the barrier which seems to only just pop up in time, with the Beep coming almost as you have gone through the thing.

Yep 7ncj.
It is not just the Fast TAG lane's either, the VW Golf I drive with RoofBox is 1.97m, and it passed safely under the car park barriers that stated 1.8m.
And I am sure there was a good 4" clearance at the Fast TAG lane, going of the car in front of me.
Of course there is always the chance that a piece of infrastructure beyond the height barrier that will be at the advertised max height, but I very much doubt this would be the case.
I guess there must be some unwritten rules that allow for a 10% error margin, and maybe you can factor that in.
It is of course to always a good idea to be aware of the height of your unit, so I have some stickers on my roofbox to remind me.
There's no such thing as a 'fast lane' ... the bane of UK driving thinking!
It';s the 'overtaking lane' ... which, naturally, implies going faster than the cars you are overtaking in the other lanes ... hence the misconception, and misnomer.
The overtaking lane should be used for that ... i.e overtake, and get back into lane ... don't sit in it ad nauseum.
Rant over!
