We'll definitely look at Hull for northern Europe/eastern France destinations. It's 90 minutes away and saves the M1, M25, Dover, Paris/Rouen etc, and possible overnighters.
Doesn't work so well for western France so we'll continue to use Portsmouth > St Malo, although the overall rationale is the same, let the boat do the driving.
