I am a Petty Officer with the Sea Cadet Corps and we are planning a trip to Normandy next year to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.
We will be taking around 18 Cadets (aged 13-17) and 8 adults.
We are planning to camp in Arromanches municipal site, we have stayed there before and found it very central.
Has anybody arranged this sort of trip? I am struggling to book the LD Lines ferry from Portsmouth to Le Havre. At first it said that the dates weren't available now the website says that they are full!!!
Help!!! I'm new to all of this and want to make it a fab trip for the Cadets!!

If none of your adults have experience of taking a group of teenagers to France then I suggest you go and talk to your local Secondary school - teachers there who have taken school groups will give you all the do's and dont's about getting parental permission, safety requirements, passport requirements (individual or group), health arrangements, supervision, and so on and so on. There are clear guidelines that they have to follow, and you would be wise to do the same. Good wishes.

We have taken children abroad before. My husband did used to be a secondary school teacher and has been to Normandy with a group of children.
The Sea Cadets have strict guidelines for us to adhere to, we have dealt with all of those aspects with regards to emergency provision of accommodation, quickest route to the hospital etc.
The part I need help with is booking the ferry as I seem to be getting nowhere with LD Lines.
One minute they say the dates aren't released, next day it's full!!!
P and O have said to make the booking with them through the freight department.
Basically, the rest of the trip is sorted, right down to itinerary and menus and white fleet hire from the MOD, booking the ferry is the stumbling block, despite the fact that I have done it many times for us as a family!!

If they really can't book for you then try Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to Caen. Their booking line is definitely open for next year, and Caen is nearer to your destination than Le Havre. Good wishes again.
